Weightage: 7 Marks
General Introduction: Importance and scope of Chemistry. Nature of matter, laws of chemical
combination, Dalton's atomic theory: concept of elements, atoms and molecules. Atomic and molecular
masses, mole concept and molar mass, percentage composition, empirical and molecular formula,
chemical reactions, stoichiometry and calculations based on stoichiometry, Reactions in solution.

General information
 The assignment has two sections i.e., A & B.
 The section A has Various theoretical questions completing the whole syllabus of the unit these
questions are to be revised from the class notes / text book for a better understanding of chapters.
 Section B has various questions as per the taxonomy of unit completing the questions from
knowledge level, understanding level, application level, analyzing level, synthesis level, evaluation
level & other forms of questions like case study, art integrated problems etc. These questions are
to be Solved in the assignment notebook.

B1-How many significant figures are present in (i) 0.0025 (ii) 600.0 (iii)126,000 (iv) 6.0012
B2: Express the following in the scientific notation. (i) 0.0048 (ii) 123400 (iii) 800.0 (iv) 6006
B3: Calculate the molecular mass of (i) C6H12O6 (ii)H2SO4 (iii) CH3COOH (iv) HNO3
B4: Boron occurs in nature in the form of two isotopes, 5B11 & 5B10, in ratio of 81% and 19% respectively.
Calculate its average atomic mass. [ Ans : 10.81.]
B5: How are 0.50 mol Na2CO3 and 0.50M Na2CO3 different?

B6: Calculate the molarity of NaOH in the solution prepared by dissolving its 4g in enough water to form
250ml of the solution. [ Ans: 0.4mol/L.]
B7: An organometallic compound on analysis was found to contain C = 64.4%, H = 5.5% and Fe = 29.9%.
determine its empirical formula. ( at mass of Fe = 56u) [Ans: C10H10Fe]
B8: A welding fuel gas contains carbon and hydrogen only. Burning a small sample of it in oxygen gives 3.38
g carbon dioxide, 0.690 g of water and no other products. A volume of 10.0 L (measured at S.T.P.) of this
welding gas is found to weigh 11.6 g. Calculate (i) empirical formula, (ii) molar mass of the gas, and (iii)
molecular formula. [Ans : E.F = CH. Molar mass = 25.98g, Molecular formula = C2H2]
B9: 50.0 kg of N2(g) and 10.0 kg of H2(g) are mixed to produce NH3(g). Calculate the NH3 (g) formed. Identify
the limiting reagent in the production of NH3 in this situation.
[Ans : H2 = 10.714kg , H2 is limiting reagent, Amount of NH3 = 56.66kg]
B10: In the reaction, A + B2→ AB2, identify the limiting reagent, if any, in the following mixtures
(i) 300 atoms of A + 200 molecules of B (ii) 2 mol A + 3 mol B
(iii) 100 atoms of A + 100 molecules of B (iv) 5 mol A + 2.5 mol B
(v) 2.5 mol A + 5 mol B. [Ans: (i) B (ii) A (iii) No (iv) B (v) A]
B11: Dinitrogen and dihydrogen react with each other to produce ammonia according to the following
chemical equation:(i) N2 (g) + 3H2(g) → 2NH3 (g)
(i) Calculate the mass of ammonia produced if 2.00 x 103g dinitrogen reacts with 1.00 x 103g dihydrogen.
(ii) Will any of the two reactants remain unreacted?
(iii) If yes, which one and what would be its mass?
[Ans: H2 : 428.57gm, N2 is limiting reagent, H2 remains unreacted, H2 unreacted = 571.4gm]
B12: Calculate the concentration of Nitric acid in moles per liter in a simple which has a density 1. 41 gram
per ml, and mass percentage of nitric acid in it being 69%. [Ans: 15.44 mol/litre]
B13: If the density of methanol is 0.793. Kg/ liter. What is its volume needed for making 2.5 liter of its 0.25
M solution? [Ans : 25.22ml]
B14:The density of 3M Solution of NaCl is 1.25g/ml. calculate the molality of the solution. [Ans:2.79mol/kg]
B15: Calculate the number of atoms in each of the following
(i) 52 moles of He (ii) 52 u of He (iii) 52 g of He
(iv) 0.5mole atoms of nitrogen (v) 0.2 mole molecules of nitrogen (vi) 3.2g of sulphur
[Ans : (i)N= 3.13 X 10 Atoms, (ii)13atoms , (iii)N = 7.8286 x 10 atoms (iv) N = 3.022 x 1023 atoms ,

B16: X g of potassium chlorate on decomposition produced 1.92g of oxygen and 2.96g, of potassium chloride. What is
the value of x ? [Ans: 4.88gm]
B17: Calculate number of moles in each of the following (i) 11 g of CO2 (ii) 3.01 x1022 molecules of CO2.
[Ans: (i) 0.25 mole (ii) 0.05mol ]
B18: Calculate the mass % of different elements present in ethanol (C 2H5OH). [Ans: 34.73%]
B19: What is the simplest formula of the compound which has the following % composition carbon 80%, Hydrogen
20%. If the molecular mass is 30. Calculate its molecular formula. [Ans: E.F = CH3, E.F = C2H6]
B20: How many grams of oxygen (O2) are required to completely reacts with 0.200g of hydrogen (H2) to yield water
(H2O)? Also calculate the amount of water formed. [Ans: O2 required = 1.6g, H2O produce = 1.8 gm]
