SS Roleplay
Setting: Private Chinese School
*Student is called by the teacher to talk about his/her performance on a certain
subject. His/her
grades are getting worse as time passes.*
Teacher: [Student name], I have called you here to talk about your grades in
Chinese. I noticed that you
seem to be having a difficult time in my subject, and you are well aware that it is
one of the main subjects
in this school.
Student: Yes, teacher. I just... I really am not good at it and no matter what I
try to do I just
can't get the hang of it.
Teacher: You will have to do better if you don't want a failing grade.
Student: I understand, teacher. Thank you.
Teacher: No problem, dear.
*The student walks towards the open field of their school and becomes worried
because he/she knows that
his/her parents will be furious with him/her if they find out. He/she decides to
ask his/her friends for
advice on what he/she should do in the situation. The student's friends follow
different philosophies so
he/she was also curious on what they would say. He/she goes up to the friend who
follows Confucianism.*
Student: Yo, [friend's name], I was wondering if I could ask you something?
[friend]: Sure what is it?
Student: So our Chinese language teacher informed me I'm failing on her subject.
What should I do?
[friend]: Well, I grew up being taught Confucianism and based on what I've learned,
it is best to let your
parents know about this and promise them and our teacher as well to learn from all
your not-so-good performances in the subject and work hard to do better.
Student: Oh thanks for the advice, I'll definitely keep that in mind.
[friend]: No problem, see you around.
*He/she then comes across his other friend.*
[friend]: Hey there, [student]. You look a bit down today, what happened?
Student: Our teacher in Chinese just informed us that I'm failing her subject and
that I gotta do better. What
would you do if you were in my place?
[friend]: Hmmm, I see. Legalism is the philosophy that my household follows and it
taught me that a person
must face the consequences of his or her own shortcomings. So if I were you, I'd
just accept the fact that I
failed and do better next time.
Student: Thanks for the answer. I'll get going now, bye.
[friend]: Alright bye!
*Meets another friend at the canteen*
[friend]: Why the long face? Did something happen?
Student: Today has been quite stressing, I'm failing Chinese class and the teacher
says that if I wanna maintain my grades, I have to do better in her class.
[friend]: Hmm I see, honestly that's really common among students you know. We all
experience these types of
things. You must be feeling really frustrated right now and I completely
understand, being a Buddhist and all, I was raised to be compassionate to others
and do my best to help. I think you shouldn't let the situation affect you because
you can just improve the next time you know??
Student: *nods head* Thanks for that, I think I really needed that. Bye, I gotta
go.
[friend]: Byeee
*Before the student went home, he/she stumbled upon another friend. He/she decides
to ask this one last person for some insight.*
Student: [friend name] wait up!
[friend]: Oh hey! what's up?
Student: Definitely not my grade in Chinese.
[friend]: Oh...Anything I could help you with?
Student: Well, I'd really appreciate if you could help me on what I should do.
[friend]: Hmmm..being a Daoist taught me that these types of things don't really
matter because what will
grades do in dictating your life right?? I mean yeah sure you got low grades but
you can just strive harder the next time cuz you can't change anything that has
happened already you know? But that's just me, it's
still up to you what you wanna do.
Student: Wow thanks for that, I'll think about it. See you next week byeee
[friend]: byeee
*As the student went home, he thought to himself.*
Student: Wow I wasn't aware that people with different philosophies also approached
situations like these in different ways but they all did say something in common, I
have to work better next time.
