(a) Find the location of the image.
(b) Find the height of the image.

2. The image of an object placed 16 cm from a concave mirror is formed at a distance of 24 cm from the
mirror. Calculate the possible focal lengths of the concave mirror from this information.
3. Where an object should be placed before a concave mirror of focal length 20 cm so that a real image
is formed at a distance of 60 cm from it?
4. If the height of the object in the previous problem is 1.2 cm , what will be the height of the image?
5. When a concave mirror is placed facing the sun, the sun's rays converge to a point 10 cm from the
mirror. Now, an erect, 2 cm long pin is placed 15 cm away on the principal axis of the mirror. If you
want to get the image of the pin on a card, where would you place the card? What would be the
nature and height of the image?

16. When N identical electric bulbs, each rated as 11W,220 V are connected in parallel across a 220 V
supply line, the total current drawn is 5 A . What is the value of N ?
17. A wire of resistance 20ohm is bent in the form of a closed circle. What is the effective resistance

18. A student has focused the image of a candle flame on a white screen using a concave mirror.
The situation is as given below:
Length of the flame = 1.5 cm
Focal length of the mirror = 12 cm
Distance of flame from the mirror = 18 cm
If the flame is perpendicular to the principal axis of the mirror, then calculate the following:
(i) Distance of the image from the mirror.
(ii) Length of the image
If the distance between the mirror and the flame is reduced to 10 cm , then what would be observed
on the screen? Draw ray diagram to justify your answer for this situation.

24. An object of height 5 cm is placed perpendicular to the principal axis of a concave dens of length

position, nature and size of the image formed using the lens formula.

An electric current can be used for making temporary magnets known as electromagnets.
An electromagnetic consists of long coil of insulted copper wire around on a soft iron core. The core of
an electromagnet must be of soft iron because soft ion looses all of its magnetism when current in the
coil is switch off.
The following factors affecting the strength of an electromagnet.
i) The number of turn the coil.
ii) The current flowing in the coil.
iii) The length of air gap between its pole.
