What is a resource?

Ans- Anything that can be used to satisfy a need is a resource. Ex- Water, Land, Forest, Food,
Electricity, Books etc.

How does something become a resource?


Ans- Its utility or usability is what makes an object or substance a resource. Its use or utility gives it a
value. All resources have some value.

What are the two factors that can change substances into resources?
Ans- Time and technology are two important factors that can change substances into resources.

How do the People themselves are the most important resource?


Ans- It is their ideas, knowledge, inventions and discoveries that lead to the creation of more
resources. So, humans are also resources.

“Some resources have economic value, some do not.” Give some examples to explain the
statements.
Ans- Some resources have economic value, some do not. For example, metals may have an
economic value, a beautiful landscape may not. But both are important and satisfy human needs.

Ans- Resources are distributed unequally over the ‘earth because of the different natural conditions,

renewed is called resource conservation.

Why are human resources important?


Ans- Human resources are important because the development of other resources solely depends
upon this resource as humans have knowledge, skill, and technology to develop other resources.
What is sustainable development?
Ans- We should use resources in such a balanced way that we satisfy our needs as well as conserve
them for the future. This concept is called sustainable development.

Ans- Man-made things are not natural, they are developed he humans. Few examples of man-made
things are- Medicines, Clothes, Buildings, Furniture, Car, Books, Roads, Bridges, Hospital, Vehicles,
Pen, Computer etc.

Differentiate between abiotic and biotic resources.

Differentiate between renewable and non-renewable resources.

What do you mean by the term ‘Utility’?


Ans- Utility or usability is what makes an object or substance a resource. Water, electricity, rickshaw,
vegetables and textbooks have something in common. They have all been used by you, so they have
utility.
Can some resources become valuable with time?
Ans- Yes, some resources can become economically valuable with time. Your grandmother’s home
remedies have no commercial value today. But if they are patented and sold by a medical firm
tomorrow, they could become economically valuable.

What do you understand about the term ‘Patent’?


Ans- An exclusive right over any idea or invention is referred to as a patent.

Why are resources distributed unequally over the earth?


Ans- The distribution of natural resources is influenced by a variety of physical characteristics such as
terrain, climate, and altitude. Because these characteristics vary so greatly across the globe,
resource distribution is unequal.
