is for numbers. I say a colour or a number and ss have to clap their hands or stamp their feet
depending on the word I say.

● Touch something: I say the name of an item from the vocabulary (e.g. touch something blue).
Ss run to touch something blue.

● T/F race: Show a flashcard, say a word from the vocabulary and if it corresponds with the
flashcard, ss run to the right side of the classroom. If not, they run to the left.

● Shoot out: in pairs, they’re back-to-back. They turn around and the first one in saying the
name of the flashcard wins.

● Hidden flashcards

touches the floor, the person who was supposed to take it is out.

● Run to the flashcard: put the flashcards everywhere around the classroom. Say the name of
one of them and the kids have to run to it.

● Flashcard categories: put the different categories of flashcards around the class (or an open
space), e.g. jungle, sea, farm… I show a flashcard that belongs to one of those categories, e.g.
elephant, pig, dolphin… Ss run to the correct category.

● Right vs. left: I tell ss that right means something (e.g. right) and left another thing (e.g.
wrong), so depending on what I say after (e.g. dolphins live in the farm) ss go to their left or
their right.

● Bingo

● Step on: Put flashcards on the floor. Ss have to step on the right flashcard

● Beret: el juego de a bandera.

● Pelmanism: ss have to match the cards (memory game)

● Missing flashcard

● Quiz (buzzers): ask questions/describe one of the words from the vocabulary. In teams, they
press the buzzer if they know the answer.

● Spell it!: I spell a word. In teams, ss write the words on the write boards

● Scramble words: show a word with the letters in the wrong order. The s who writes the
correct word faster wins.

● Odd one out

● Fast and furious sentences: in teams, they line up in front of the blackboard. I give them a
sentence they have to turn into e.g. passive, reported speech, relatives… One by one, they
come to the blackboard and either write a word or correct the one their partner previously
wrote. The team who gets the correct sentence faster is the winner.

● Password: In pairs. I choose a word from the vocabulary for each pair of ss (e.g. remote
control). Student A sees the word and tells student B a wordclue (e.g. TV). Student B says
another word related to the vocabulary (e.g. home cinema system). If that’s not the correct
word, student A tells B another wordclue (e.g. channel). They continue till student B says the
correct word.

● Basketball competition: Place 3 baskets at a different distance. The student answers a

question. If the answer is correct, they get to throw the ball. Depending on the basket they
score the ball, they would get 1, 2 or 3 points.

● Basketball competition (parts of speech): Divide the class in groups. Give each group a ball.
Place 3 baskets in front of them. I say a word form the vocabulary and they have to decide if it
is a noun, an adjective, a verb… depending on the part of the speech, the s who is throwing
the ball has to choose the correct basket and score.

● Sentence chain (conditional sentences): I say a conditional sentence (e.g. If I pass all my
exams this year, I’ll have a special holiday in the summer.) and the next person has to use the
second part of my sentence to begin theirs (e.g. If I have a special holiday in the summer, I’ll
go with my friends).

● Stop the time: divide the class into teams and line them up facing the board. Display 2 timers
on board. Then, say a topic. I start the timer of one of the teams and the first person of the
line says a word related to the topic, then stops their timer and starts the other team’s timer…
● Flashcard race: divide the class into 2 teams. Place 2 chairs in the middle of the classroom
facing the opposite direction. 2 students (one from each team) sit on the chairs. Place 2
flashcards on the other side of the room upside down (one for each team). On the count of 3,
the ss who are sitting down run to the flashcards, have a look at them and run to the board to
write the word. The rest of the team can help with spelling.

is the general word which is "fruit".

● Paper Grab Game:

1. Cut up some scraps of paper, give definitions to vocabulary you have been studying in the
class and the first student to guess the word/phrase writes it on the scraps of paper (in
duplicate or even triplicate if you have a large class) to create sets of vocabulary cards. Collect
them all in.
2. Divide your students into groups (4-6 is good) and arrange each group around a table
3. Spread 1 set of vocabulary cards on each table and call out definitions. The students grab
the corresponding word from their table. The winner is the student with the most words in
their hand at the end of the game.

● The dice game: You will need a die and mini boards/pieces of paper/ the digital board. Divide
them into small groups or pairs and give each group something to write. In turns, one of them
will have to come to the front and roll the dice. Depending on the number that person gets,
he will have to do one thing or another. The rest of the class will have to guess and write the
word correctly. They must also pronounce it correctly to get the points.

board to the member with their back to the board (the hotseat). 1st team member in the
hotseat gets a point. Rotate and repeat.
2- Taboo
Similar to traditional but there are also some taboo words that team members are not
allowed to use when describing the piece of vocabulary. If they use a taboo word, the other
team gets the point. Rotate and repeat. Loads of resources on Quizlet and Bamboozle for this.

hotseat to describe an item or a phrase but without speaking/ making sounds.

● Flashcard spelling race: divide the class into 2 teams. Place 2 chairs in the middle of the
classroom facing the opposite direction. 2 students (one from each team) sit on the chairs.
Place 2 flashcards on the other side of the room upside down (one for each team). On the
count of 3, the ss who are sitting down run to the flashcards, have a look at them and run to
the board to write the word. The rest of the team can help with spelling.

● Odd one out: I write a topic on a paper and ss, one by one, come to see the paper. I show the
topic to everyone in the class except one student, but they can’t say anything. Now, one by
one ss have to say a word related to the topic and the student who has no idea about the
topic has to try to give a word guessing the topic by thinking about the words their classmates
have used. At the end of one or two rounds, the students have to guess who didn’t know the
topic.

● Vocabulary/phrase - Hawaiian Skirts: Write words or phrases on pieces of paper (but they
have missing letters). Divide the class into teams and tell them that one by one in the team,
they have to run to take one of the pieces and take it to the team. Together, they have to
complete the word/phrase. Then, they show it to the teacher: if it’s correct, they can run to
take the next piece of paper, if not, they have to go back to the team and complete it
correctly.

the classroom. T draws something on the board and let the ss look at it for 30 seconds. T
cleans the board and the ss that were outside come in. The teams describe the drawing to the
ss that were outside and they have to draw it on the board. The team with the most similar
drawing wins.

● Around the world race (good for fluency/after reading or listening) : place ss into 2 circles,
one inside the other with each student facing another student. Give the ss in the inner circle a
paper with comprehension questions about the reading/listening. They read the questions to
the person in front of them as quickly as possible and the other student answers them as
quick as possible. The first pair to finish is the winner. Then, the ones in the outer circle goes
to the next person. Repeat the process 3 or 4 rounds.

● Dice/pen game: use any activity from the book. Divide the class into teams and give the pen
to one of the teams. They can start doing the activity, but as soon as the other team gets a 6
with the dice, the team that is writing has to stop and give the pen to the other team, and so
on. The first team that finishes the activity is the winner.

that part and continues reading where I am, gets the point.

guess the line. Then, ss draw their own representation of any line they want and the
other ss have to guess the line.
○ First to clap/stamp feet/stand up…: I say a number, synonym, describe a word, etc.
from the text and ss have to find it.
