relativity

of time
Presented by Kathlyn Cacayuran
Have you ever wondered
if time is the same for
everyone?
according to
Albert Einstein's
theory of
relativity, time is
not as absolute as
we might think.
relativity of time
It's the idea that time is not universal and can vary
depending on the motion and gravitational fields of
observers.
Special Relativity
One aspect of the relativity of time is known as special
relativity. Special relativity deals with objects moving at
constant speeds. The speed of light in a vacuum is
constant for all observers, regardless of their motion.
Time dilation
Time dilation refers to the phenomenon where
time appears to pass differently for objects that
are moving relative to each other.
Imagine two identical twins, one stays on Earth
while the other travels into space at a high
velocity and then returns. When the traveling
twin returns, they would have aged less
compared to the twin who stayed on Earth. This
is because the traveling twin experienced time
dilation due to their high velocity.
General
Relativity
In general relativity, time dilation can occur due to
differences in gravitational fields. Clocks in stronger
gravitational fields run slower compared to clocks in
weaker gravitational fields.
Muon Decay
Experiment
An experiment that demonstrates time dilation due to
motion is the Muon Decay Experiment. Muons are subatomic
particles created in the upper atmosphere. According to
classical physics, muons traveling at high speeds should not
reach the Earth's surface before decaying. However, due to
time dilation, muons can travel longer distances before
decaying.
Conclusion
the relativity of time is a fascinating concept in
physics. It challenges our intuitive understanding
of time as a universal constant. The theory of
relativity, developed by Albert Einstein, has been
supported by various experiments and
observations, confirming the existence of time
dilation.
