Title: Lab Report on Mechanical Workshop

Location: wollo university(KIOT) at ancharo

Date of Visit: 21,may,2024

Reported by: Ali mamo

Abstract:

This visit report on the mechanical workshop at ancharo provides a detailed overview of the
workshop's equipment, tools, activities, and processes. The report highlights the well-equipped facility,
and emphasis on different latest machines observed during the visit. Recommendations for
maintenance and safety measures are provided to enhance the efficiency and safety of the workshop.
Overall, the visit was informative and insightful, deepening the understanding of practical aspects of
mechanical engineering.

Introduction:

The mechanical workshop is an essential facility in any engineering department, providing students with
hands-on experience in various mechanical processes and tools. This lab report aims to document
observations made during a visit to the mechanical workshop located at ancharo .

Objective:

The primary objective of the visit to the mechanical workshop was to observe and understand the
equipment, tools, and processes commonly used in mechanical engineering practices.

Description of the workshop

The mechanical workshop in wollo university (KIOT) is a well-equipped facility that caters to various
mechanical engineering tasks. The workshop is spacious and organized it includes different modern
machines and allowing for efficient workflow and movement of personnel and equipment.

Equipment and Tools:

During the visit to the mechanical workshop in wollo university(KIOT) at ancharo, several types of
machines were observed, including CNC machines, drilling machines, lathes, hydrolic metal sheet cutting
machines and conventional milling machines. The workshop instructor( abubekir) provided a
demonstration on how to operate and make adjustments on those machines. Each machine played a
crucial role in the workshop's operations and showcased the workshop's capabilities in precision
engineering and manufacturing.

1. CNC Machines:

The workshop was equipped with several CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, including CNC
milling machines and CNC lathes. These machines were used for precision machining tasks that required
high accuracy and repeatability. The CNC machines need a highly skilled operater who programs the
machines to execute complex machining operations with precision. The use of CNC machines
highlighted the workshop's focus on modern technology and automation in manufacturing processes.
2. Drilling Machines:

Various types of drilling machines were present in the workshop, ranging from hydrolic drills to pillar
drills. These machines were used for drilling holes in workpieces with precision and consistency. The
drilling machines featured adjustable speeds and feeds to accommodate different materials and hole
sizes. Skilled operators efficiently utilized the drilling machines for a wide range of applications, such as
creating holes for fasteners, dowels, or threading operations.

3. Lathes:

The workshop had both manual and CNC lathes for turning operations. The lathes were used to create
cylindrical components by rotating the work piece against cutting tools. Skilled machinists demonstrated
proficiency in using the lathes to produce intricate shapes, threads, and surfaces with high accuracy. The
presence of both manual and CNC lathes showcased the workshop's versatility in handling diverse
turning tasks efficiently.

4. Conventional Milling Machines:

Conventional milling machines were a prominent feature in the workshop, utilized for various milling
operations such as face milling, end milling, and slotting. The milling machines featured adjustable
spindle speeds and feed rates to achieve precise cuts on workpieces. The conventional milling machines
played a vital role in producing components with complex geometries and tight tolerances.

Overall, the observed machines in the mechanical workshop in KIOT at ancharo reflected a well-
equipped facility with a diverse range of machining capabilities. The workshop instructor( abubekir)
demonstration on how to operate the machines was informative and engaging .

Conclusion:

Overall, my visit to the mechanical workshop in KIOT at ancharo was informative and insightful. I gained
valuable knowledge about the operations and activities of a mechanical workshop, as well as the
equipment and tools used in mechanical engineering and it offered a glimpse into the practical
applications of theoretical concepts learned in the classroom.
Recommendations:

Based on my observations during the visit, I would recommend that [Insert Name of Workshop]
continue to prioritize maintenance and safety measures in the workshop. Regular inspections of
equipment and tools, as well as ongoing training for personnel on safety protocols, can help ensure a
safe and efficient working environment.

Acknowledgements:

I would like to express my gratitude to the staff at [Insert Name of Workshop] for their hospitality and
willingness to share their knowledge and expertise during my visit. Their professionalism and dedication
to their work were truly inspiring.
