THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
Introduction
Shelter is one of the basic human needs, along with water, foods, and electricity. It provides a
stable and secure environment where individuals can rest and recover from daily stress. Matthew
Desmond (2017), a sociologist and author, emphasized the importance of stable housing for human
flourishing. He argues that stable housing is a fundamental human need and cornerstone of social and
economic stability.
Cabanatuan City, located in Nueva Ecija province, is growing urban center in the Philippines. It
attracts students from different municipalities and cities outside Cabanatuan City who seek to pursue
their studies in private and public universities and colleges. This influx of student puts pressure on the
existing boarding stock and creates a need for more boarding options. Providing adequate and
affordable value for these students is essential for their academic success and overall well-being. It also
contributes to the city for economic growth and development.
A proposed system was developed to address the boarding needs of students and other
residents of Cabanatuan City-the system aims to provide a user friendly interface that offers rich
information on available boarding options. This system is designed to be easy to use and makes it
accessible to many users.
The researchers also considered the inclusion of Google Maps to enhance the Geo-boarder
experience. This feature would have provided users with accurate and detailed information on the
available shelter options, locations, and the surrounding amenities.
An application was developed for individuals searching for individuals searching for place to
stay for a few months or years, which proved promising. The study addressed the boarding needs of
people seeking temporary or permanent shelter. The study’s name Geo-Border, had been derived from
one of the researchers, and it became a cross-platform shelter finder that leveraged geo-location
technology for seamless shelter hunting.
The Geo-Boarder application provides users with an easy-to-use interface that offers more
information on boarding options. The geo-location platform technology allows users to search for
boarding in their preferred location and budget, because of this it provides a convenient and efficient
tool for finding boardinghouse. Due to the integration of Geo-location technology the Geo-boarder
application provides more accurate and detailed information to the user.
The study will feature pictures and rules of a boardinghouse to establish a relaxing area that
provides its safety and comfort. Its location near Cabanatuan City is an advantage in attracting its target
market and providing for their needs. To provide exellent service and meet the demands of its target
market, offering a comfortable living experience, especially for students from far places, and ensuring
safety and security for residents.
According to the study, it addresses the current needs of people, especially those living alone,
students living far from the city, and part-timer students or workers. By housing within the city and near
the areas they need, it makes it easier for them to access transportation and travel conveniently,
ultimately helping them save costs.
The growing demand for boarding services. Due to the increasing number of students and
workers from moving elsewhere, there needs to be more studies to explore the effectiveness and
usability of existing apartment search systems. In addition, there is a need to write about the features
and designs of the user interface that the target prefers most on the market, which can inform the
development of more than user-friendly apartment finder system. Therefore further research is needed
to identify the key factors that contributed to the success of apartment search systems in Cabanatuan
City and to develop more effective and user friendly systems that have identified the needs and
preferences of its users.
Review of Related Literature and Systems
