ICE BREAKER

Topic: One Random Object

This icebreaker is a fun game, aimed at making participants feel relaxed and creating a sense of
community. You could also use it as an energizer, if needed, when you sense that your
participants are losing focus.

Instructions:

 Ask a participant to pick one random object that is in their room and not tell anyone what
it is.
 Explain that the other participants will have to guess what it is, by asking questions that
require a yes or no answer.

ACTIVITY 2

STORY TELLING

Topic: Potato, Egg, or Coffee Bean Motivational Story

The story goes like this: A young woman went to her mother and told her about the problems she
was facing in life. She said she was tired of fighting and struggling and didn’t know how to keep
going. The mother took her to the kitchen and filled three pots with water. She placed each pot
on a burner, turned on the heat, and put a potato in one pot, an egg in the second, and coffee
beans in the third. After a while, she turned off the burners and fished out the potato, egg, and
coffee beans, and asked her daughter to observe them carefully. The potato was soft and had
become very weak. The egg, which had been fragile, now had a hardened shell inside. But the
coffee beans had transformed the water into a rich and aromatic coffee. The mother then
explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity – boiling water. However, each
of them had reacted differently. The potato went in strong, firm, and hard, but in boiling water, it
became soft and weak. The egg had been fragile and had a thin outer shell, but in boiling water,
it had become hard inside. The coffee beans, on the other hand, had changed the water and
created something new. The mother explained that we all face adversity, and how we react to it
depends on us. We can either become weak, hard, or transform the situation into something
positive.

The young woman realized that she had a choice – to be like a potato, an egg, or a coffee bean.

ACTIVITY 3

LECTURE

Understanding Self Development:

Definition: Self-development means working on becoming a better version of yourself in

different areas like how you think, feel, act, and relate to others.

Why It's Important for Teens:

 Figuring Out Who You Are: It helps you understand what you're good at, what you like,
and what's important to you.
 Feeling Good About Yourself: It boosts your confidence and helps you handle tough
situations.
 Doing Well in School and Work: It improves your skills like studying, managing time,
and dealing with people, which are important for doing well in school and later in your
job.
 Getting Along with Others: It teaches you how to communicate, work in teams, and solve
problems with others.
 Having a Clear Path: It gives you a sense of direction and purpose in life.

Good Things about Self-Improvement:

 Feeling more confident and sure of yourself

 Doing better in school and getting ready for a job
 Handling your emotions better and bouncing back from tough times
 Getting along with people and making friends easily
 Knowing what you want and how to get there

ACTIVITY 4

LECTURE

Self Awareness and Self Esteem

Self-awareness and self-esteem are two important aspects of self-development, especially for
teenagers.

 Self-Awareness: This is about knowing yourself well—your strengths, weaknesses,

values, emotions, and how you relate to others. It's like having a clear picture of who you
are. When you're self-aware, you can make better decisions, understand your feelings,
and improve your relationships. For example, if you know you get anxious before tests,
being self-aware helps you find ways to manage that anxiety, like practicing relaxation
techniques or studying early.
 Self-Esteem: This is how much you value and believe in yourself. It's like having
confidence in your abilities and feeling good about who you are. When you have high
self-esteem, you're more resilient to challenges, you take risks, and you're less affected by
criticism or rejection. For instance, if you have high self-esteem, you're more likely to try
new things or speak up in class without worrying too much about what others think.

Both self-awareness and self-esteem are linked because understanding yourself better (self-
awareness) can boost how you see yourself (self-esteem). Working on both can lead to a happier,
more confident you!

ACTIVITY 5

ACTIVITY

Topic: WHO AM I?

This is a good activity to focus on positive things (i.e. people’s achievements). It is also a
networking tool, as participants could be interested in achieving the same goal that another
person in the group has achieved and whom they might ask for advice from.

Instructions:

 Ask participants to write down their strengths and to improve(weakness)

 Ask participants to say what goal they have achieved so far (it does not matter how
small)
 Discuss. You could facilitate the discussion by asking a question such as how they felt
when they achieved the goal or what skills do they think were important in achieving the
goal.

ACTIVITY 6

LECTURE

Adaptability and Relationship

Adaptability for Teens:

 Dealing with Change: Being adaptable helps teens handle new situations, like starting
high school or making new friends.
 Problem-Solving: It teaches them to think creatively and find solutions when things don't
go as planned.
 Being Resilient: Adaptable teens bounce back from setbacks and learn from their
experiences.
 Getting Along with Others: It helps them appreciate differences and make friends easily.

Relationships for Teens:

 Good Communication: Teens who communicate well build strong friendships and get
along with family members.
 Understanding Others: Being empathetic helps them understand how others feel and be
supportive.
 Solving Problems: It teaches them to resolve conflicts calmly and find solutions together.
 Support System: Positive relationships with peers and family provide emotional support
and a sense of belonging.

Both adaptability and positive relationships are important for teens' growth, helping them
navigate challenges, build friendships, and feel confident in themselves.

ACTIVITY 7

LECTURE

Goal Setting and Growth Mindset

Goal setting and having a growth mindset are essential for teenagers' personal development and
success. Let's break down these concepts in simpler terms:

Goal Setting for Teens:

 Having a Target: Setting goals means having something specific you want to achieve,
like improving grades, learning a new skill, or getting involved in a hobby.
 Making Plans: It involves thinking about what steps you need to take to reach your goal,
like studying regularly, practicing, or joining a club.
 Staying Motivated: Setting goals keeps you focused and motivated to work towards
something meaningful.
 Tracking Progress: It's important to check in on your progress regularly to see how you're
doing and make adjustments if needed.
 Celebrating Achievements: When you reach a goal, celebrate your success! It's a way to
recognize your hard work and stay motivated for future goals.

SMART GOALS- STRATERGY

Growth Mindset for Teens:

 Believing in Yourself: A growth mindset is about believing that you can improve and
learn through effort and practice.
 Embracing Challenges: It means seeing challenges as opportunities to grow and learn
new things, rather than as obstacles.
 Learning from Mistakes: Instead of getting discouraged by mistakes, a growth mindset
helps you see them as learning experiences that help you improve.
 Seeking Feedback: You're open to feedback from others because you see it as a way to
learn and get better.
 Being Persistent: With a growth mindset, you keep trying even when things get tough
because you know that effort leads to improvement.

Combining goal setting with a growth mindset helps teens set meaningful goals, stay motivated,
overcome obstacles, and develop a positive attitude towards learning and self-improvement.

ACTIVITY 8

GROUP ACTIVITY
Topic: Standing Ovation

Purpose

Fast forward to an imaginary future. You are receiving a standing ovation. The applause does not
seem to stop. People admire you and your achievement. You are the centre of attention at this
moment. Full immersion in this simple visualization can create a wonderful and positive feeling.
This exercise helps to turn this energy into something that will benefit people by getting them
closer to this dream. This technique is particularly useful for those who might be wondering what
they want to do in life or thinking that what they are currently doing is not what they want to do
forever. By focusing on an emotional event such as receiving a standing ovation, you can focus
their thoughts towards what they truly like as opposed to getting carried away by their current
limitations or past direction.

Objective

Think of an imaginary standing ovation that you are receiving in the future and work backwards
to see what you need to do to realise it.

What You Need

Papers

Setup

 Explain that each member will go through this exercise individually.

 Ask the members to imagine they are receiving a standing ovation in the future. For best
results, they must visualize something that is spectacular and strongly positive, their
ultimate success.
 Ask them to close their eyes and visualize the scene. Where are they standing? What are
they wearing? How large is the crowd? How noisy is their applause? How does the
environment look like? What have they done to deserve this much attention and praise?
Who is in the audience? Why their peers think they are a head above the rest?
 Encourage members to think of as many details as they can.
 Ask the members to open their eyes. While still thinking about the imaginary standing
ovation, ask them to right down their achievement that would have attracted this much
praise.
 Ask them to consider this as a goal and work backwards to see how they can get there.
They should consider all the steps required to get them closer to their vision from where
they are now. Ask them to write this down in sequence working backwards from the
standing ovation event. For example, they can work backwards in 6-months steps
detailing what would happen in each step and continue backwards until the present
moment.
 Allocate 10 minutes for this part.
 Follow with a discussion.

ACTIVITY 9

LECTURE

Self Care and Resilience

Self-care and resilience are important aspects of well-being, especially for teenagers. Here's a
simplified explanation of each concept:

Self-Care for Teens:

 Taking Care of Yourself: Self-care means doing things that help you feel good
physically, mentally, and emotionally, like getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising,
and practicing relaxation techniques.
 Managing Stress: It involves finding healthy ways to manage stress, such as talking to
friends, doing activities you enjoy, or practicing mindfulness and meditation.
 Setting Boundaries: Self-care also includes setting boundaries and saying no to things
that drain your energy or cause unnecessary stress.
 Seeking Support: It's important to reach out for help when you need it, whether it's
talking to a trusted adult, counselor, or seeking professional support.
 Making Time for Fun: Self-care includes making time for activities that bring you joy
and relaxation, like hobbies, spending time with friends and family, or simply taking a
break when you need it.

Resilience for Teens:

 Bouncing Back: Resilience is the ability to bounce back from challenges and setbacks.
It's about staying strong and positive even when things are tough.
 Positive Thinking: Resilience involves having a positive outlook and believing in your
ability to overcome difficulties.
 Problem-Solving: It includes being resourceful and finding solutions to problems rather
than getting stuck in negative thinking.
 Learning from Experiences: Resilience means learning from experiences, including
mistakes and failures, and using them as opportunities for growth and improvement.
 Building Support Networks: Having strong relationships and support from friends,
family, and mentors is an important part of resilience. It's okay to ask for help when you
need it.

By practicing self-care and building resilience, teens can better cope with stress, build healthy
habits, and develop the skills they need to navigate challenges and thrive in life.
