II. Answer the following questions : 2×1=2
4. What is the role of split ring in an electric motor?
Ans ; Split rings reverses the direction of current in an electric circuit.
5. Draw a neat diagram of simple electric circuit.
Ans ;
III. Answer the following questions: 3×2=6
6. A student sitting in the last bench has difficulty in reading the blackboard writing. Which is the defect of vision
the student has? How can it be corrected?.
Ans; The defect that the student suffering from is myopia (short-sightedness)
This defect can be corrected by using concave lens with suitable power.
7. Write the difference between generator & motor.
Ans ;
Electric generator Electric motor.
An electric motor is a machine that converts An electric generator is a machine that
electrical energy to mechanical energy converts mechanical energy to electrical
energy.`
Electric motor follows Fleming’s left-hand rule Electric generator follows Fleming’s right-
hand rule.
The working principle of the generator is based The working principle of the generator is
on force experienced by a current carrying based on electromagnetic induction.
conductor due to its magnetic field
8. Observe the information given below ? in which of the these does the light travels fastest? give reaon.
media Refractive index
Kerosene 1.44
Turpentine 1.47
Water 1.33
Ans ; Water is the media in which the light travels fastest.
This is the speed of light in a medium is inversely proportional to the refractive index of the medium

Convex mirror is commonly used rear-view mirror in vehicles. Why? Write the relationship between focal length &
the radius of curvature of a convex mirror.
Ans ; convex mirror is commonly used rear-view mirror in vehicles because it always forms an erect and diminished
image. It has a wider field of view as they are curved outwards.
The relation between focal length and radius of curvature is
R = 2f
Where R is radius of curvature
f is focal length.
IV. Answer the following questions : 3×3=9
9. List any four characteristics of a good source of energy.How can the burning of fossil fuels cause acid rain?
Ans ; Characteristics of a good source of energy :
Which has do a large amount of work per unit volume or mass
Must be easily accessible / available
Must be easy to store and transport
Must be economical.
OR
a)Why are we looking for alternative sources of energy? explain.
b) state any two advantages & disadvantages of solar cells
Ans ; a) The reasons for our looking at alternative sources of energy are ;
The conventional sources of energy like fossil fuels are in danger of getting exhausted soon.
Conventional sources of energy are not sufficient to run the machines to do more and more tasks.
Unlimited use of conventional sources of energy has led to the problem of energy crisis
Uncontrolled use of conventional sources of energy has created many problems of environmental
pollution.
b) Advantages associated with solar cells :
They have no moving parts
They require little maintenance
They work quite satisfactorily without the use of any focussing device
They can be set up in remote and inaccessible hamlets or very sparsely inhabited areas in which laying of a
power transmission line may be expensive.
Disadvantages associated with solar cells :
Availability of special grade silicon for making solar cells is limited.
The process of manufacture of solar cells is very expensive.
Silver used for interconnection of the cells in the panel is very costly.
Their efficiency is low.
{ Any two }
10. Draw the ray diagram when the object is kept between F1 & 2F1 of the convex lens & mention the position &
nature of the image formed.
Nature of image – Real and inverted
Size – Enlarged
Position – Beyond 2F2
11. What is hyper metropia? what are the reason and remedies for hyper metropia?
Ans ; Hyper metropia is also known as far sightedness. The person suffering from this defect can see distant object
clearly but cannot see nearby objects distinctly. When starlight enters to earth’s atmosphere it undergoes
continuous refraction.
Reasons ;
(i) the focal length of the eye lens is too long,
(ii) the eyeball has become too small.
This phenomenon is called twinkling of stars
Remedies ;
This defect can be corrected by using a convex lens of appropriate power.

Why does sky appear dark instead of blue to the astronaut? Why does the sun appear reddish during sunrise &
sunset?explain.
Ans ; To an astronaut, the sky looks dark and black instead of blue because there is no atmosphere containing air in
the outer space to scatter sunlight. So, there is no scattered light to reach our eyes in outer space. Therefore the sky
looks dark and black there.
Red light scatters the least by the molecules present in the air. So at sunrise and sunset, the sunlight travels a longer
path through the atmosphere to reach our eyes. The blue light scatters the most and has been mostly removed,
leaving the red light remaining which reaches our eyes. Hence the sun appears red during sunrise and sunset.
V. Answer the following question : 2×4=8
12. Observe the given diagram & explain the experiment related to this diagram. What conclusion can be drawn
from this experiment.
Ans ;
The ends of the copper coil ( AB ) are connected to a galvanometer. The north pole of the bar magnet ( NS )
is moved inside the coil. Induced current is produced in the coil and hence the needle of the galvanometer
shows momentary deflection in one direction
When the north pole of the magnet is withdrawn from the coil, the needle of the galvanometer is deflected
in the opposite direction.
When the magnet is held stationary inside the coil, the deflection of the galvanometer drops to zero ( shows
no deflection ).
When the magnet is moved inside the coil with greater force, galvanometer shows greater deflection and
when the magnet is moved with smaller force, the galvanometer shows smaller deflection. When the
magnet is stationary and the coil is moved towards / away from the magnet, galvanometer show deflection.
Conclusions that can be drawn from this experiment:
Motion of the magnet with respect to the coil produces an induced potential difference, which sets up an
induced electric current in the circuit.
13. a)Observe the given circuit diagram & calculate the total resistance & the total current flowing through the
circuit.
b) 200 J of heat is produced in two seconds in a 8Ω resistance. Find the potential difference across the resistors
Ans ;
H = I2Rt
b) H = 200 J
𝐻
R=8Ω I2 = V = IR
𝑅𝑡
T = 2 sec 400
V=5x8
I2 =
8𝑥2 V = 40V
V=?
I = 25
I= 5A
∴ The potential difference across the resistors is 40V
