Deep Sea Mission has the potential to contribute greatly to the overall
growth of Indian economy: Union Minister of Earth Sciences.
Green economy strategies tend to focus on the sectors of energy,
transport, sometimes agriculture and forestry, while the blue economy
focuses on fisheries sectors and marine and coastal resources. Both
incorporate strategies to address climate mitigation and adaptation.
The blue economy, or the ocean economy, is a term used to describe the
economic activities associated with the oceans and seas. The World
Bank defines the blue economy as the “sustainable use of ocean
resources to benefit economies, livelihoods and ocean ecosystem
health”.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the beneficiaries of
Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM
JANMAN) across the country, via video conferencing today.
The beneficiaries who interacted directly with the PM belonged to
Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and

Grassroots Governance on 24th April, 2024 to mark National
Panchayati Raj Day.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj commemorates the 24th of April every
year as National Panchayati Raj Day (NPRD) with profound zeal and
fervour, marking the enactment of the Constitution (73rd Amendment)
Act, 1992, which came into force on 24th April, 1993.
The National Colloquium on Grassroots Governance holds particular
significance as it coincides with three decades of the Constitution (73rd
Amendment) Act and two decades since the creation of the Ministry of
Panchayati Raj.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj is dedicated to empowering
grassroots governance and accelerating progress on LSDGs across
rural India (Localization of Sustainable Development Goals) through
innovative initiatives and digital interventions.
As a third tier of government and the primary interface between the
union government and rural communities, Panchayats play a crucial
role in promoting Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business in rural
India.
The Ministry’s digital initiatives are instrumental in promoting self-
reliance, creating sustainable livelihoods, supporting inclusive
development and advancing Localization of Sustainable Development
Goals (LSDGs) across Gram Panchayats nationwide.

“Statistics Day” will be celebrated on June 29, 2024
Theme: Use of Data for Decision-Making
In recognition of the notable contributions made by Professor (late)
Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in the fields of statistics and
economic planning, Government of India has designated June 29 every
year, coinciding with his birth anniversary, as “Statistics Day”
in the category of Special Days to be celebrated at the national level.
The main objective of celebrating Statistics Day is creation of public
awareness, especially among the younger generation, on the role and
importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy
formulation for development of the country.
Since 2007, Statistics Day is celebrated every year with a theme of
contemporary national importance.
The Sustainable Development Goals- National Indicator Framework
Progress Report, 2024 is also scheduled to be released during the event.
Recognizing the need of effective and efficient dissemination of official
statistics to the users, MoSPI has been working on developing a data
portal called eSankhyiki for official statistics, having time series data
of important macro indicators and the catalogue of data assets of the
Ministry.

The ambitious plan envisages to transform PACS into Multi-Service
Societies

implemented its pilot project (11 states).
The Pilot project has been implemented by National Cooperative
Development Corporation (NCDC) with the support of NABARD,
Food Corporation of India (FCI), Central Warehousing Corporation
(CWC), NABARD Consultancy Services (NABCONS) in
coordination with States/ UTs concerned.
The Plan envisages creation of various agricultural infrastructure at
PACS level, including warehouses, custom hiring center, processing
units, Fair Price Shops, etc. through convergence of various existing
schemes of the Government of India (GoI), such as, Agriculture
Infrastructure Fund (AIF), Agricultural Marketing Infrastructure
Scheme (AMI), Sub Mission on Agricultural Mechanization
(SMAM) Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing
Enterprises Scheme (PMFME) etc.

(iUS) machine for performing complex brain tumour surgeries
The system was unveiled on 1st June 2024 at the Tata Memorial
Hospital Mumbai.

Second Advance Estimates of 2023-24 of Area and Production of
Horticultural Crops
Horticulture production in the country in 2023-24 is estimated to be
about 352.23 Million Tonnes
Production of Fruits is expected to reach 112.63 Million Tonnes &
Production of Vegetables is envisaged to be around 204.96 Million
Tonnes
The horticulture production in the country in 2023-24 (Second Advance
Estimates) is estimated to be about 352.23 Million Tonnes, decrease of
about 32.51 Lakh Tonnes (0.91%) over 2022-23 (Final Estimates).
Increase in production of Fruits, Honey, Flowers, Plantation Crops,
Spices and Aromatics & Medicinal Plants is seen over 2023-24 (Final
Estimates) whereas decrease in Vegetables.
Total foodgrain production :
Total foodgrain production is estimated at 3288.52 LMT, higher by
211.00 LMT from average foodgrain production of last 5 years.
Total Rice production is estimated at 1367.00 LMT as compared to
1357.55 LMT in 2022-23, showing an increase of 9.45 LMT
Production of Wheat is estimated at 1129.25 LMT which is higher by
23.71 LMT from previous year’s wheat production
Production of Shree Anna is estimated at 174.08 LMT showing a
marginal increase of 0.87 LMT from 2022-23 production
THE Production of Nutri/Coarse Cereals is estimated at 547.34 LMT
which is higher by 46.24 LMT from average Nutri/ Coarse Cereals
production
The production of Soybean is estimated at 130.54 LMT and production
of Rapeseed & Mustard is estimated at 131.61 LMT which higher by
5.18 LMT to last year’s production
The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare has released Third
Advance Estimates of Major Agricultural Crops for the year 2023-
24.
From the last agricultural year, the summer season has been segregated
from Rabi season and incorporated in the Third Advance Estimates.
Hence, this Advance Estimates of area, production and yield includes
Kharif, Rabi & Summer season.
This estimate has been primarily prepared on the basis of information
received from State Agricultural Statistics Authorities (SASAs).

Protocol (CAP), ‘Call to Action’ and promotes SDGs (Susatinable

India and Qatar hold first meeting of Joint Task Force on Investment in

The 5th Joint Group of Customs (JGC) meeting between India and
Bhutan was held on 6th-7th May, 2024 in Leh, Ladakh

annually to discuss issues relating to re-defining and re-engineering of
Customs procedures, promote Customs cooperation and cross-border
trade facilitation with alignment to global best practices.

Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala
Sitharaman administered the oath of integrity and secrecy to Justice
(Retd.) Sanjaya Kumar Mishra as the President of the GST Appellate
Tribunal (GSTAT), in New Delhi, 06 May 2024.
Justice (Retd.) Mishra’s appointment marks the beginning of the
operationalisation of the GSTAT, a crucial body for resolving GST-
related disputes.
The GSTAT is the Appellate Authority established under the Central
Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, to hear various appeals under the
said Act and the respective State/Union Territories GST Acts against the
orders of the first appellate authority.

Net Revenue (after refunds) stood at ₹1.92 lakh crore; 15.5% y-o-y

The Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections hit a record high
in April 2024 at ₹2.10 lakh crore.
This represents a significant 12.4% year-on-year growth, driven by a
strong increase in domestic transactions (up 13.4%) and imports (up
8.3%). After accounting for refunds, the net GST revenue for April 2024
stands at ₹1.92 lakh crore, reflecting an impressive 15.5% growth
compared to the same period last year.

clean sports
The National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), India concluded
#PlayTrue Campaign,
The campaign commemorated WADA’s Play True Day and aimed at
fostering awareness about the importance of clean sport and anti-doping
practices in India, received overwhelming participation and support from
athletes, coaches, and sports enthusiasts nationwide.
The campaign was held from 15th to 30th April, 2024.
