CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Companies have ways to help maintain and establish satisfactory performance for their products,
businesspeople need to have a record or report of sales and performance of their products
throughout the year. They can see here the progress if their sales are increasing, decreasing, or in
the same progress. Companies and even small businesses need to collect data about their
products. The stocks, and the needed products to resupply. In this study, we will make a website
that can help Basarte's Group with their product (Banana Blossom and Malunggay made
Nuggets) for Grade 11 students of STI College Marikina. This inventory website is for the
business they want to pursue. We make it to help them to be productive and to ease tracking their
business progress. This can help them manage their time because it is in one application and
there is no need to download many apps or go to another website to just see the Inventory.
According to the research of Muhammad Marsudi, from the Department of Industrial
Engineering at Universitas Islam Kalimantan. The inventory helps to run the business smoothly
and has a key role in controlling businesses. It is used to see the stocks if the materials for
making their products are still available, and enough for making the target numbers of products
to be produced. According to the Inventory theory study by Jaime Zappone, he stated that “The
purpose of inventory theory is to determine rules that management can use to minimize the costs
associated with maintaining inventory and meeting customer demand.” (Zappone, n.d.).
Furthermore, the inventory has three basic types; raw resources, work-in-progress, and
2
completed goods. The raw materials are the ingredients that are needed in making their products.
Work-in-progress is the process of production. And completed goods are products already made
but not yet sold. (Pagare, et al., 2016). This process that Pagare’s group stated can help us to
identify or break down the important things need to have an inventory system especially if the
products getting popular to the consumers, you need to maintain the stocks to produce enough
products to the market and to maintain the tastes, or appearances of your product to attract more
buyers for your business.
The inventory system played a vital role in the COVID-19 pandemic. The review article entitled
“Inventory Management and Control Systems in COVID-19 Pandemic Era: An Exploratory
Study of Selected Health Institutions in Anambra State, Nigeria”. This review specified the
inventory system played a significant role in the COVID-19 pandemic to modify the demand and
supply medical supplies. (Lliemena, R. 2022).
The information we get from that information gives us knowledge and insights on how the
inventory system works. It also helps us to know how to improve the system in tracking
materials. Making the owners have a systematic, timesaving, cost-efficient and suitable website
for their inventory.
3
Overview of the Current State of Technology
The system's purpose is to bridge the extensive gap between theory and practice of inventory
management and to assist users in achieving efficient and successful inventory management.
Inventory control is important in ensuring the smooth running of the store, company, or business.
Here is the common practice of inventory management:
● Receive and inspect products.
As it suggests, obtain the products, and examine them for the exact quantity and other problems.
● Sort and stock products.
We sort them by category, label, or other system. After that we stock the products in a suitable
environment or place.
● Accept customer order.
Taking the customers’ orders and figuring out the storage.
● Plan the products.
You need to consistently track results, monitor stock levels, and investigate any issues. Based on
this data you can then update your management plans.
4
● Reorder new stock.
With data, you could ensure the schedule and quantity to re-order. By basing on previous sales,
we could minimize both stockouts and deadstock.
Statement of the Problem
General Problem:
The current inventory management system for (Banana Blossom and Malunggay made Nuggets)
is inefficient and manual, leading to operational challenges that hinder the effective distribution
of nutritious snacks to senior high school students.
Specific Problems:
1. Inefficient Inventory Tracking: The existing manual system lacks efficiency, resulting in
inaccuracies and delays in tracking the availability of (Banana and Malunggay made Nuggets)
2. Limited Accessibility: Authorized personnel face challenges in accessing real-time inventory
data, impacting their ability to make informed decisions regarding restocking and distribution.
3. Difficulty in Demand Prediction: The absence of a systematic approach to analyzing
consumption patterns makes it challenging to accurately predict the demand for energy bars
among senior high school students.
5
4. Risk of Product Spoilage: Inadequate monitoring of expiration dates and timely rotation of
stock poses a risk of product spoilage, impacting the quality and availability of (Banana and
Malunggay made Nuggets) for Grade 11 students.
5. Manual Ordering Process: The reliance on manual processes for placing orders leads to
delays and potential errors in replenishing inventory, affecting the consistent availability of
energy bars.
6. Lack of User-Friendly Interface: The absence of a user-friendly interface for inventory
management hampers the adoption of efficient tracking systems among staff responsible for
distribution.
7. Security Concerns: The current system may lack sufficient security measures, raising
concerns about unauthorized access or manipulation of sensitive inventory data.
8. Limited Reporting and Analytics: The absence of comprehensive reporting and analytics
tools makes it difficult to derive valuable insights into consumption trends and overall inventory
performance.
9. Inadequate Communication Channels: There is a lack of effective communication channels
within the inventory management system, resulting in miscommunication and delays in
addressing stock-related issues.
6
10. Sustainability Challenges: Manual processes contribute to a lack of sustainability in
managing inventory, hindering efforts to align with environmentally friendly practices and
institutional goals. Addressing these specific problems through the development of a dedicated
website application is essential to streamline inventory management processes and ensure the
consistent availability of their products.
Research Questions
1. How does this inventory help their (Banana Blossom and Malunggay made Nuggets) product
to be useful in their business growth?
2. What is the difference between this inventory to other inventory systems?
Objective of the Study:
General
The objective of Web-based Inventory Management for Basarte's Group is to ensure that they
can easily monitor their raw materials, finished products, and the number of products they sell.
Specific
● To analyze the impact of effective inventory management on overall operational
efficiency, cost reduction, and customer.
● To assess the potential impact of external factors, such as market trends, and supply chain
disruptions on the inventory management process.
7
● To contribute to the existing body of knowledge in inventory management by best
practices applicable to the specific industry and organizational context.
● To figure out how better inventory management could help us run things more smoothly,
save costs, and to keep the customers happy.
● To explore the integration of technology solutions, such as automation and forecasting
tools, to enhance the responsiveness of the inventory management system.
Significance of the Study
1. The business owners Basarte's Group can easily monitor the number of their stocks in making
their products. This inventory will help us to keep track of the raw materials, products in
progress, and finished products.
2. Web-based inventory will be useful in knowing the daily progress.
3. It can help them easily connect with their suppliers within our web-based inventory.
4. This will also help us to lessen the use of traditional ways of getting the inventory in
businesses (e.g., using a logbook to monitor their inventory and store it in a filing cabinet).
Scope and Limitations
8
Scope: This research aims to develop a web-based inventory management system for a specific
business such as the ABM product (Banana Blossom and Malunggay made Nuggets). The
system will be designed to:
● Track and manage the inventory levels of a specific product.
● Provide real-time updates on inventory levels.
● Generate reports and analytics on inventory data.
● Implement a unique feature to enhance inventory management.
Delimitations:
● This research will focus on developing the system for a Banana Blossom and Malunggay made
Nuggets.
● The system will not be made available for use by other businesses.
● The scope of the unique feature will be limited to one specific functionality.
● Integration with external systems and APIs will not be considered.
Future Scope: This research lays the foundation for further development and expansion of the
inventory management system. Future work could involve:
● Adding support for multiple products.
● Implementing more advanced unique features.
● Expanding the system to be used by multiple businesses if the application gets recognized.
9
● Conducting more comprehensive security testing and audits
