Calculation and Health Monitoring"
System for weight loss monitoring and control using a predictive
algorithm
INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents the background, the statement of the problem, the purpose, and the
objectives of the study. Fitnessmirrors are used to provide extra information to the user. This
chapter provides an overview about fitnessmirrors, BMI and how this study can aid in people’s
fitness plan.
1.1 Background of the Study
In 2019, an estimated 38.2 million children under the age of 5 years were overweight or obese.
Once considered a high-income country problem, overweight and obesity are now on the rise in
low- and middle-income countries, particularly in urban settings. In Africa, the number of
overweight children under 5 has increased by nearly 24% percent since 2000. Almost half of the
children under 5 who were overweight or obese in 2019 lived in Asia.
Over 340 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 were overweight or obese in 2016.
The prevalence of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents aged 5-19 has risen
dramatically from just 4% in 1975 to just over 18% in 2016. The rise has occurred similarly
among both boys and girls: in 2016 18% of girls and 19% of boys were overweight.
While just under 1% of children and adolescents aged 5-19 were obese in 1975, more 124
million children and adolescents (6% of girls and 8% of boys) were obese in 2016.
Overweight and obesity are linked to more deaths worldwide than underweight. Globally there
are more people who are obese than underweight – this occurs in every region except parts of
sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
The integration of technology into everyday life has transformed the way we interact with
our surroundings and access information. One notable innovation in this regard is the emergence
of "F Mirrors," a convergence of reflective surfaces and interactive displays. These mirrors, often
equipped with features such as touchscreens, cameras, and sensors, offer a range of
functionalities that extend beyond mere reflection. The development and proliferation of fitness
mirrors represents a significant evolution in the intersection of technology, design, and user
experience.
This study aims to delve into the world of fitness mirrors, with a focus on fitness and
health monitoring. The goal is to assist people who are struggling to achieve their ideal bodily
fitness. Fitness mirrors have the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with mirrors and,
by extension, the world around us, by enhancing the user's daily grooming routine by displaying
current body mass index (BMI) and monitoring the user's progress valuable health insights
through biometric data tracking.
This study aims to contribute to the understanding of fitness mirrors as a burgeoning
technology, shedding light on their evolution, capabilities, and potential impact on various
aspects of modern life. It also seeks to uncover emerging trends and challenges in the field,
paving the way for future innovations and applications that harness the power of fitness mirrors
to enhance user experiences, improve efficiency, and foster a deeper connection between
individuals and their surroundings.
1.2 Problem Statement
• It is difficult, expensive and time-consuming to apply for consultation from a fitness
expert.
• There is no guarantee that the user will be able to lose the amount of body weight in a
certain amount of time.
1.3 Objective
general objectives
• To design a system which will monitor and analyze the users' weight loss routine.
• To create an algorithm which can predict the time to obtain the desired body weight.
• To design a system which will provide the control to the users' weight loss activities.
Specific Objectives
To design a system that can monitor, analyze, and track the conditions of a person

1.4 Purpose of the Study
The purpose of this study is to look into the significance of maintaining proper BMI classification
and its impact on general health and well-being. This study aims to see if introducing a fitness
mirror into one's workout regimen and daily life will help one achieve and maintain a healthy
BMI classification. This study aims to investigate the usefulness of fitness mirrors in promoting
healthy BMI levels and general well-being by analyzing data and participant feedback. The
findings will shed light on the possibility of fitness mirrors as a technology-driven solution for
persons trying to achieve and maintain an ideal BMI categorization.
To improve everyone's health and wellbeing, this study seeks to assess the efficacy of therapies
aimed at lowering Body Mass Index (BMI). These interventions are designed to promote
healthier lifestyles, reduce health risks associated with abnormal BMI, and improve overall
quality of life. The incorporation of evidence-based strategies within these interventions seeks
to optimize BMI outcomes and address the multifaceted challenges associated with weight
management
Furthermore, the study will analyze the efficacy of various strategies and interventions in
obtaining and maintaining a healthy BMI categorization. The findings of this study will
contribute to the development of strategies and recommendations for individuals to achieve
and maintain a healthy BMI range for improved health outcomes.
1.5 Definition of Terms
Mirror - A mirror is an object or surface that reflects light in such a way that it forms an image
of whatever is in front of it. Mirrors are typically made of a smooth and reflective material, such
as glass with a thin layer of metal, like aluminum or silver, on its back surface.
BMI- BMI stands for Body Mass Index. It is a numerical value calculated from a person's weight
and height and is commonly used as an indicator of an individual's overall body composition in
relation to their height.
