OPERATIONS ON POLYNOMIALS
The learner Adds and subtracts polynomials, Derives the laws of exponent. Multiplies and divides polynomials.
At the end of the lesson, students with 80% accuracy are able to:
A – Recall polynomials.
M- Simplify expressions using the laws of exponent.
Perform operations on Polynomials.
T – Solve problems involving polynomials
OPERATIONS ON POLYNOMIALS
Polynomials may be written in descending order, in ascending order, or neither. Generally, we write the polynomials in
descending or ascending order in a way we can easily identify like terms or similar terms. In general, when multiplying
numbers with the same base, just copy the common base and add their exponents. This is the first law of exponents or
the Product of Powers. In symbols, for any number a and positive integers m and n, a m • an=am +n . A method known
as FOIL method can be used for multiplying any two binomials. Remember that FOIL stands for the First terms, Outside
terms, Inside terms, and Last terms.
