INTRODUCTION
This module’s overall theme is “MATTER: ALL AROUND US”. In this module, children
will get to ….
Unit Overview
“Matter All Around Us” has 3 units of study. These are:
UNIT 1: All About Science Children will explore what Science is about
and what skills are needed to do scientific investigations.
UNIT 2: Characteristics of Objects Children will use their five senses to
group objects based on characteristics
UNIT 3: The States of Matter Children will learn about the three states of
matter and how to handle these safely.
Parts of the Module
Each module contains different units of study which are divided into the
following parts:
UNIT TITLE AND OVERVIEW
This part of the module gives an idea about what is going to be learned in the unit.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Learning outcomes are the knowledge, skills, attitude, and values that students will
understand and do in this unit.
LEARNING TIMELINE
The Learning Timeline shows the activities to do for each day and how much time to spend
for each activity.
MATERIALS CHECKLIST
This is a list of all the materials that are needed for the activities in the unit.
2
LEARNING ACTIVITIES
The learning activities in each unit of study have the following parts in order:
LET’S CONNECT:
Review of the previous lesson and introduction to the new lesson
LET’S LEARN:
Exploration of concepts and skills through various learning activities
LET’S REMEMBER:
Summary of important concepts to remember
LET’S PRACTICE:
Application or extension of learning
LET’S SHOW OUR LEARNING:
Assessment of learning
BEHAVIOR CHART
Weekly monitoring of behavior using a simple visual scale. To be answered
by the parent with their child each day or by the end of each week. Set
behavior goals with your child based on the results.

sugar, salt container
balloon, soy sauce, water,
LET’S REMEMBER (Wednesdays) scissors and box of milk,
notebook, pencil
paper and pencil

LET’S SHOW OUR LEARNING (Fridays)
UNIT 3 DAY 11
LET’S CONNECT
We know now that matter is anything that surrounds us.
However, do you know that matter can change its physical form?
Let’s go and study this lesson!
Time: 40 minutes
In this activity you will…. You will need these
materials:
1. Know how matter
changes its physical • paper/notebook
form.
• pencil
7
Let’s sing!
Ice – Cold Lemonade
Tune : Skip to My Lou
There’s water in the pitcher, ready to pour.
There’s water in the pitcher, ready to pour.
Pour it in the ice trays we bought at the
store.
Then put them in the freezer.
Wait a little while, then take them out.
The water has changed, what’s this
about?
It turned into ice, without a doubt.
What can we make with ice cubes?
Put the ice in the glass and go to the
store.
Buy some lemons, you know what they’re for.
But when you come back, there's no ice anymore.
All you have is water.
I. Answer the questions.
What happens to the water placed in the freezer after a while?

II. Draw 5 examples of physical changes in matter. Tell something
about your drawing. Do it in your notebook.
UNIT 3 DAY 12
LET’S LEARN
Mixed it up!
Time: 40 minutes
In this activity you will…. You will need these materials:
1. Make a mixture and • vegetables/ fruits,
solution.
water, sugar, salt
2. Identify if there are
container
physical changes when
matters were mixed.
Matter can be changed into its physical form, it is called physical
change. However, even if there is
change to its form or looks, there is
no new material formed.
Example:
9
If you crumple a paper or cut into
smaller pieces, you change its looks
but it is still a paper.
Example of new material form:
If you cook an egg, the raw egg produces
new material because it is exposed to
heat. There are changes in color, structure
and taste.
Activity 1 - Get the materials - vegetables/ fruits, water, sugar, salt,
container. Do the following mixture and solution.
mixture of vegetable salad
Is there a new material formed in the mixture? ___________
10
sugar and water solution
Is there a new material formed in the solution? ___________
salt and water solution
Is there a new material formed in the mixture?
___________
Activity 2. Draw a heart if there is physical change and circle if not.
____________ 1. mixing vinegar and baking
____________ 2. mixing of ice and water
____________ 3. solution of powdered juice and water
____________ 4. solution of soy sauce and sugar
____________ 5. mixture of water and flour
____________ 6. mixing vinegar and soy sauce
____________ 7. mixing of water and soy sauce
____________ 8. solution of liquid soap and water
____________ 9. mixture of flour and sugar
____________ 10. solution of water and shampoo
11
UNIT 3 DAY 13
LET’S REMEMBER
Matter can be changed into its physical form.
Time: 40 minutes
In this activity you will…. You will need these
materials:
1. Predict the result before
conducting the balloon, soy sauce,
experiment. water, scissors and box
2. Identify some ways to of milk, notebook,
change matter. pencil
3. Know the definition of
physical change.
A physical change is a change in which no new material forms.
Physical changes do not change the kind of matter an object is
made up of.
When you cause a physical change in a material you change
one of its physical properties. (a feature you can observe with your
senses or measure)
You cause a physical change when you make a mixture. A
mixture is a combination of different materials in a mixture but no
new materials form. The materials are mixed together but the parts
keep their own properties.
12
Physical changes can happen through breaking, chopping,
peeling, slicing, freezing, melting, mixture or solution.
In salad you mixed the ingredients but still no
new material form.
In solution of sugar and water, the sugar
dissolved but still no new material form.
Activity 1- Guess what!
1. Get the balloon. Predict what will happen to the balloon after
blowing?
___________________________________________________________________
Blow the balloon. Is there new material formed? _____________
2. Get the soy sauce, water and glass. Predict what will happen to
the soy sauce after mixing it with the water?
___________________________________________________________________
Mixed the soy sauce in a glass of water. Is there new material form?
_______
13
3. Get the box of milk and scissors. Predict what will happen to the
box when after cutting using scissors?
___________________________________________________________________
Cut the box using the scissors. Is there a new material formed?
________
Activity 2 - True or False
Write True if the statement is correct and False if not.
__________________ 1. Physical change is a change which no material
form.
__________________ 2. The paper after cutting using a scissor is still a
paper.
__________________ 3. The solution in water and sugar changed into a
new material.
__________________ 4. The vegetable salad mixed together but
the parts keep their own properties.
__________________ 5. After blowing the balloon, the air becomes
toxic.

UNIT 3 DAY 14
LET’S PRACTICE
Matter can change its form or state.
Time: 40 minutes
In this activity you will…. You will need these
materials:
1. Identify the physical
changes in matter. • paper and pencil
Activity 1 - Physical Changes of Matter
Match the following. Write the letter of the correct answer.
15
Activity 2 Choose the letter of the correct answer.
A. solid to solid B. liquid to solid
C. solid to liquid D. solid to gas
E. liquid to gas F. liquid to liquid
____________ 1. ice cream taken out to the freezer
____________ 2. boiling water
____________ 3. naphthalene balls placed in the closet
____________ 4. mixture of sliced vegetables
____________ 5. mixture of red paint and white paint
____________ 6. mixture of powdered juice and water
____________ 7. mixture of vinegar and soy sauce
____________ 8. jelly air freshener placed in the car
____________ 9. chopping woods
____________ 10. shredding paper
16
UNIT 3 DAY 15
LET’S SHOW OUR LEARNING
Identify the physical changes in matter including the state of
matter in mixture and solution.
Time: 30 minutes
In this activity you will…. You will need these materials:
1. Arrange the chart about • paper, pencil
physical changes of
matter.
I. Fill in the chart. Place the word/s in the corresponding column.
*boiling water *solid air freshener *sawing woods
*frozen ice candy *water dries up * ice melting
*naphthalene balls *cutting cloth *rainfall
*morning dew * jelly air fresher * slicing a cake
