• Theory of operation

• Removal and replacement

• Position adjustment
• Troubleshooting

Function Principle

 The ActivDispense is a presenter type dispenser. It picks currency or other dispensable

media from dispense cassettes, stacks the media, and transports the stack of media to
the consumer through a slot in the fascia of the terminal
 It can present media, retract and dump it if not taken
 There is a Front Load and Rear Load ActivDispense module
 Front Load and Rear Load Transports have Short and Long versions
 The cassette options include
Convenient or Secure currency cassettes
Convenient, Secure, or Bin divert cassettes
 To gain full access to the module, a blue latch is used

sensors

- Dispense to Present ( Cash Out)

- Dump during Dispense

9 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
Function Principle: Operation Routines 1.

 Picking and stacking – Firmware reads the cassette coding. Feed Modules pick the
requested amount of notes from cassettes. Restack/reject routines may occur. Largest
banknotes picked first, smallest last. Notes placed in the Stacker Module, into the tray.
Stacker sensor counts the number of arriving notes, FW compares it with the number of
picked notes.
 Present – Well prepared notes in the Stacker Tray are presented by Host command
through the Transport Module. Notes are considered as vulnerable from this point.
 Re-present – If customer does not take the presented notes after Timer (05) expires or
the default 32 seconds, notes are re-presented several times.
 Restore – After a successful Present operation, the Transport and Stacker Module
returns back to idle position, which is Stacking.

10 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
Function Principle: Operation Routines 2.

 Retract – If customer does not remove (all) notes after timeout and re-present attempts,
the notes are retracted behind the shutter, than placed into the Retract compartment of
the Reject/Retract cassette.
 Reject – During Picking sequence, if the dimensions, or number of picked notes is not
OK even after a Restack/Recovery attempt, notes are Rejected and placed into the Divert
compartment of the Reject/Retract cassette.
 Dump – Host can decide to Dump the note stack in the Stacker Tray any time. It is
placed into the Divert compartment of the Reject/Retract cassette. Example, Count
mismatch.
 Divert – During dispenser self tests and diagnostic tests, the module picks some single
notes from the Feed Modules and places them into the Divert compartment of the
Reject/Retract cassette.

Function Principle: Picking & Stacking

1. Notes picked by Feed Modules

2. Notes counted by Stacker sensor
3. Notes placed into Stacker Tray

12 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
Function Principle: Presenting
Stack pushed w/ pushplate and
Tray lifted up. Stack will be pushed Stack presented by belts only
belts until exit sensor blocked
w/pushplate towards shutter Shutter closes on top of notes
Belts & pushplate stops
If not taken re-presented
Shutter opens

16 | DIEBOLD NIXDORF
ActivDispense Module Position Adjustment

 After re-installing the dispenser, adjust its mounting tray so, when the safe door is closed,
the exit shutter is not pushed by the ATM fascia
 Ensure the gap between the AFD front plate and the ATM fascia is minimum of 0.5mm
and maximum 1 mm
 Interference, stress between the
dispenser front plate and the fascia can
cause shutter problems

AFD Dispenser – T/SOP

SPEAR - Secure communication between PC & AFD

Secure Protocol for Encryption & Authentication using RSA

This secure communication has to be established :

1. First time setup
2. when the Software is changed
3. The AFD controller is replaced.

Note: cassette used for the SPEAR communication setup must be configured

EFC Codes

ActivDispense Troubleshooting
Troubleshooting steps:
 Ask the custodian about the issue
 Go to T/Sop
 Check if you have EFC code -->EFC reference table
 Pull out AD
 Visually inspect AD
 Do a Reset test, listen to the sound, visually monitor Reset sequence
 Do a Self test
 Perform detailed tests: Motor, shutter, Dispense

Sensor Recalibration
The transport and stacker sensors must be calibrated if any of the following sub-assembly are
replaced.
• Transport sub-assembly
• Stacker sub-assembly
• Control CCA
Sensors are calibrated using the appropriate diagnostics. Troubleshooting
NOTE : The sensors must be clean and unblocked before calibration. Guide

Use this EFC ( Estimate First Cause) code reference table for
troubleshooting AFD problems

Dispenser Logs
AMI trace (Agilis Module Interface)

- AMI trace shows the action sequence and records an error in the AMI trace.
The Diebold Nixdorf LogViewer is a tool to analyze AMI based module traces
The log file is called udbdxxx.log and will be collected by the PBReport.7z
DN Series under ..\datecpy\Agilis\udbdxxx.log) Analysis

DAQ / DbdDfsStorage.dat
- DAQs are more complicate, you will know the sensor and motor status
and conclude the HW position from these messages
