Example:- for the bridge girder shown in figure below, it is required to find the strength I

moment and shear limit states

From (file – New Model – choose ( grid only)

From QUICK GRID LINES choose (5 grids) for

(x) And (1) for (y) & (z)
Right click on the grid lines and choose edit grid
lines then choose modify /show system

Edit grid lines according to the lengths of the

example
From (Define – Section properties – Frame sections-Add new property-I/wide flange- )

Do sec2 by using the same steps of sec1

Choose (draw frame/cable icon from the tool bar at the left hand side.)

(Draw the predefined sections as explained above)

Select the nodes on the frame then from assign choose joint then
restraints and select the pin supports
To define the dead load.
1- go to define – load patterns – then define DC1, DC2 & DW as Dead and
Keep the self weight Multiplier as 0
2- go to define – load case and make sure DC1, DC2& DW IS THERE
3- go to define – load combination – add new combination as shown
below. Name it comb dead the scale factor is 1.25 for DC1 & DC2 and 1.5
for DW.
Select the frames then from Assign select (Frame loads ) then distributed .
Then type the values of DC1, DC2 & DW.
To define the live moving load.
1- go to define – moving loads – path and add all paths.
Make sure the sequence of the labels is added correctly.
2- go to define – moving loads – vehicles .
Add the single truck , single tandem, double truck , double tandem and lane
loading as explained below.
2- go to define – moving loads – vehicles .
Add the single truck , single tandem, double truck , double tandem and lane
loading as explained below.
3 - go to define – moving loads – define vehicle class .
4- go to define – moving loads – moving load case
Results saved and select the first three options only .
5- go to define – load patterns
From( type) select vehicle live and name it (moving load) and keep the
(self weight Multiplier) as (0)
6- go to define – load case- add new load case Select moving load
Name it single

Select the single truck

Select 1,33 as impact factor

7- do the same for tandem, double truck & double tandem.

8- go to define – load case- add new load case

Select moving load

Name it lane

Select the lane

Select 1.0 as impact factor

9- go to define – load combination- add new combo.
strength I SINGLE=1.25DC1+ 1,25 DC2 +1.5 DW + 1.75 SINGLE +1.75 LANE

9- Do the same for single tandem , double truck & double tandem
10- run the analysis from

11- from this icon

12- select strength I single tandem and moment 3-3 – show values

MAX positive bending moment

from tandem
10- run the analysis from

11- from this icon

12- select strength I single truck and moment 3-3 – show values

MAX positive bending moment

from single truck
