1.Rosanno Locsin
o Rosanno Locsin is a Filipino American Professor of Nursing at Tokushima University, a
Professor Emeritus of Florida Atlantic University, and a Visiting Professor at universities
in Thailand, Uganda, and the Philippines.
Theory: Technological competency as caring model
o The TCCN (Locsin, 2005) is the only middle-range nursing theory that specifically
addresses technological knowing within the harmonious coexistence of nursing,
technology, and caring. This practice theory is focused on “knowing persons,” with key
elements of technological knowing, designing, and participative engaging
The contribution of locsins theoryTechnological competency as caring in nursing are concepts
can co-exist. Technology brings the patient closer to the nurse. Conversely, technology can also
increase the gap between the nurse and nursed. Nurrses use computers to schedule staff, for
timekeeping, to order medications or supplies, and for research and email. In some
organizations, nurses use computers for all patient care documentation, using systems called
electronic health records or electronic medical records
2. Carolina agravante
o She is famous for being the first Filipina theorist for writing the CASAGRA
Transformative Leadership Model. The title of the theory was derived from her name,
Carolina S. Agravante.
Theory: Transformational Leadership Theory
o The CASAGRA Theory is one of these game changers. Sr. Agravante's theory of
Transformational Leadership Theory is focused primarily on the educational and psycho-
spiritual aspect of nursing. We believe that Sr. Agravante emphasized the need for
nursing faculty specially trained to develop holistic nurses who will become leaders in
health service. There were no citations about its use in research but her approach to the
development of the theory can be modified to include nurses with different religion and
employ nursing educators from a wider variety of schools to attain practicability.
The contribution of her theory is about that the, stressed that with great leaders comes a
productive followers. She points that transforming mentors of the nursing profession in Christ
servant-leader method will yield leaders of tomorrow that are of spiritually conscious and
service oriented.
3.Carmelita divinagracia
o Carmelita C. Divinagracia, a member of the Pioneer Class (1962) of the College, who
succeeded Dean Emeritus Dumlao. In 1960, the UERM Memorial Hospital was
established to serve as the clinical laboratory for the Colleges of Medicine and
Nursing, and, later on, the College of Physical Therapy.
Theory: composure model
o Focus of the Theory. To determine the effects of the "COMPOSURE" behavior of the
advance nurse practitioner on the wellness outcome of selected cardiac patients.
Each individual needs humane, caring, spirituality-oriented intervention that can
facilitate wellness regardless of creed, social class, gender, age and nationality.
o The contributions of this model is to guide the thinking about, being and doing of
nursing. Every disciplines has a unique focus that directs inquiry and distinguishes it
from other fields of study.
4. Sr. letty Kuan
o Letty G. Kuan (LGK) hails from Katipunan and Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte,
born to parents whose father is a native Chinese businessman and her mother
who was a home economics teacher.
Theory: theory of retirement and role discontinuities
o she values the effect of retirement as a phase of one's life and its
accompanying adjustments. She identified the determinants of positive
perceptions in retirement and positive reactions toward role discontinuities.
o The Theory of Sister Letty G. Kuan is about “Graceful Aging”. Her interest in old
people initiated her to formulate a theory for the purpose of knowing the
reasons and variables on how to make people happy
The role of the nurse is to put back what they have missed during childhood and to fill this gap.
Nurses need to let them acquire good things through setting an example and to make them feel
loved and important. The role of the nurse is to become a therapeutic self and spiritual self by
showing empathy and compassion
5. Carmencita Abaquin
o is a nurse with Master’s Degree in Nursing obtained from the University of the
Philippines College of Nursing.
o An expert in Medical Surgical Nursing with subspecialty in Oncologic Nursing, which
made her known both here and abroad.
o She had served the University of the Philippines College of Nursing, as faculty and held
the position as Secretary of the College of Nursing.
o Her latest appointment as Chairman of the Board of Nursing speaks of her competence
and integrity in the field she has chosen.
Theory: PREPARE ME (Holistic Nursing Interventions)
are the nursing interventions provided to address the multi-dimensional problems of cancer
patients that can be given in any setting where patients choose to be confined. This program
emphasizes a holistic approach to nursing care. PREPARE ME has the following components:
o Presence – being with another person during the times of need. This includes
therapeutic communication, active listening, and touch.
o Reminisce Therapy – recall of past experiences, feelings and thoughts to
facilitate adaptation to present circumstances.
o Prayer
o Relaxation-Breathing – techniques to encourage and elicit relaxation for the purpose of
decreasing undesirable signs and symptoms such as pain, muscle tension, and anxiety.
o Meditation – encourages an elicit form of relaxation for the purpose of altering
patient’s level of awareness by focusing on an image or thought to facilitate inner sight
which helps establish connection and relationship with God. It may be done through the
use of music and other relaxation techniques.
o Values Clarification – assisting another individual to clarify his own values about health
and illness in order to facilitate effective decision making skills. Through this, the patient
develops an open mind that will facilitate acceptance of disease state or may help
deepen or enhance values. The process of values clarification helps one become
internally consistent by achieving closer between what we do and what we feel.
The Prepare Me theory uses identified intervention in assisting patients but most importantlyit
uses our hearts and mind in taking care of the people which makes a lot of difference.
6. Cecilia laurente
o Cecilia Laurente is a Filipino Nursing theorist whose works focused primarily on helping
a patient through support systems, specifically the family.
Theory: theory of nursing practice and career
o The primary purpose of theory in nursing is to improve practice by positively
influencing the health and quality of life of patients. Nursing theories are also
developed to define and describe nursing care, guide nursing practice, and provide a
basis for clinical decision-making.
o Cecilia Laurente is a Filipino Nursing theorist whose works focused primarily on helping
a patient through support systems, specifically the family.
o This theory aims to promote self- discovery by knowing strengths and weakness as well
as to practice controlling internal thought processes that will eventually influence
emotions, ideas and behaviors.
7. Synchronicity in human space time
o Synchronicity in the Human–Space–Time Theory of Nursing undergirds the innovative
process of nursing engagement expressed as interpersonal relating, technological
knowing, rhythmical connecting, and transformational engaging. The philosophical and
theoretical perspectives declare the evolutionary design in affirming the meaningful
human caring experiences within nursing practice. Moreover, theory-based practice
sustains the human science view of wholeness of persons while focusing on the
inclusion of the coexistence between technology and caring in nursing. The practice of
nursing approaches human caring beyond the customary, fragmented, and routinary
healthcare commitment.
Theory: A Theory of Nursing Engagement in a Global Community
o The purposes of this theoretical article are to describe synchronicity E, emphasizing the
process of nursing in guiding disciplinary nursing praxis and to rationalize theory-based
nursing as essential to the appreciation of nursing as a discipline of knowledge and a
practice profession. By exemplifying nursing as integral to human health and well-being
in a global community, an equity-oriented healthcare system is underscored as the
nurse and the person being nursed participate in a synchronistic healthcare practice in
which Synchronicity delineates a practice process of engagement affirming and
celebrating human beings as persons.
o Synchronicity in the HST Theory of Nursing Engagement is focused on human caring,
supports the praxis of Nursing, informs health care policy, and serves as a theoretical
base for practice through the processes of IR, TK, RC, and TE. Nurses worldwide are
guided by the five elements of caring as authentic intentions grounded in the theory:
dance of caring persons, caring moment, expression of caring intentions, responsive
sensing, and technological competency. Similarly, the theory can influence nursing
research and practice to address diverse human health experiences guided by the four
life principles of emancipation, equitability, interconnectivity, and transcendence of
persons within the unity of wholeness of persons. The application of the nursing
engagement processes is guided by these life principles. Nursing then unfolds in a
unitarily developing pattern that upholds the wholeness of persons through nursing
engagement processes in the HST consciousness
The HST theory is a study of caring, HST, and the perspective of synchronicity and nursing
engagement. This theory aims to enlighten nurses in their practice through an innovative
demonstration of nursing care processes grounded on authentic intentions of caring
transcending extant reductionistic approaches. Furthermore, Synchronicity is a useful
theoretical base for future research that aims to describe the meaningful connectedness in
human experiences of transcendence, interconnectivity, emancipation, and equitability with
humanistic approaches in the discipline of nursing.
