Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 3
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to:
a. analyze the function of each part of the circulatory system and explain how they
work together to circulate blood;
b. value the role of exercise and nutrition in maintaining a healthy circulatory
system; and
c. make a simple model of the heart using craft materials in an experiment.
Values: Exercise Regularly
II. Subject Matter
Topic: Circulatory System
Sub- Topic: Lymphatic System
Reference:
Materials: power point presentation, Visual aids, bending straw, clay dough, empty
bottles with a hole in caps, water and tape
III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Elicit
And today we have an activity and the
title of our activity is GUESS THE Yehey
PICTURE. It is simple. I will show a
picture and then you will see below there
is a blanks below and you will guess
what word is in those blanks. Understand Yes sir!
Okay first picture and the first word..
(Shows a picture of Heart) Expected Answer: Heart
Very Good! Give your classmate 3 claps (The students gave their classmate 3 claps)
Next Picture
(Shows a picture of Red Blood Cell) Expected Answer: Red Blood Cell
Very Good! Give your classmate 5 claps (The students gave their classmate 5 claps)
Next and Last Picture
(Shows a picture of Artery & Vein) Expected Answer: Artery and Vein
Very Good! Give your classmate 10
claps) (the students gave their classmate 10 claps)
B. Engage
We will going to have an experiment. Did
you bring those materials that I’ve asked
you to bring? Yes sir
Do you have 3 bottles? Yes
How about the 4 bended straw Yes
Clay dough? Yes
Okay let’s start the activity first open
those bottles and fill the 2 bottles with (the pupils fill the bottles with water)
water careful with water half of it is good
Next step is your bottle caps have holes (the students insert the straws in the bottle caps)
right? Insert the straws in those holes.
Next step fit the straws to each other and
secure it with a tape. (the pupils insert the straws to each other)
(demonstrate how to do it.)
Close the 1st bottle with a cap with 1
hole in it. And 2nd bottle with 2 holes in
it.
(the students follow the demonstration)
The third bottle must be empty and open
then try to squeeze the middle bottle
while pinching the straw connecting the
first and 2nd bottle to pump water to the
third bottle.
C. Explore (the students follow the instruction)
Okay now that we are done with our little
experiment and activity I will give you
individually a experiment sheet and
answer the following questions in it.
D. Explain (the pupils answer the experiment sheet)
Okay our lesson for today is connected to
the experiment that we’ve conducted
because that experiment shows a
representation of a heart and so our
lesson for today is all about
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
Do you have any idea what is Circulatory
System? Based on our experiment awhile
ago
Very Good! The circulatory system is the Expected Answer: Helps blood to travel in our
one who transport, regulate and protect body.
Awhile ago in our activity as you can see
the water is being transported to the other
bottle and that is one of the functions of
the circulatory system it also regulates
the blood that is being release in our body
again in our little experiment awhile ago
we pinch the straw connected to the 1st
and 2nd bottle and that’s how the bottle in
the 3rd bottle not producing too much
water coming from the 2nd bottle because
1st bottle gives water to the 2nd bottle to
produce a right amount of water produce
to the 3rd bottle. Got it? Yes sir!
So how to you think the bottle
experiment connected to circulatory
system? Expected Answer: it is a representation how
heart pump blood
Yes very good! It is how the heart pumps
the blood.
Let’s go the parts of Circulatory System
first one is Heart. Heart is the central
organ that pumps blood throughout the
body. It consist of four chamber namedly
Atria and ventricles.
What is the central organ that pumps
blood? Expected Answer: Heart
Very good! Next one is Blood Vessels.
Blood vessels is the one who transports
oxygen and blood back and forth to the
heart and to the body, also facilitating the
exchange lf nutrients and waste in
capillaries to the lymphatic system.
Do you know an example of an Blood
vessles? What sir?
It is like a highway in our body think of
our blood as an vehicle. Because of the
highway the vehicles can go from point a
to point b right? It’s just like the blood
and blood vessels in our body. It helps
the blood transport from point a to point
b point a from heart to point b in our
body. Understand? Yes sir!
What is the one in Circulatory system
that transport the blood in our body from
heart? Expected Answer: Blood vessels
Blood vessels has 3 parts there are
arteries, veins and capillaries
Arteries carry oxygen- rich blood away
from the heart to the body.
Veins return oxygen- poor blood back to
the heart.
Capillaries it is the part where the
exchange of oxygen, carbon dioxide,
nutrients, and waste occurs between
blood and tissues.
Last is Blood. Blood is a connective
tissue that transports oxygen, nutrients,
hormones and waste products
What is the connective tissue that
transports oxygen, nutrients, hormones
and waste products? Expected Answer: Blood
3 parts of it is RBC, WBC, Platelets, and
Plasma
Red blood cells- carry oxygen using
hemoglobin.
White Blood Cell- part of immune
system that helps to fight infections.
Platelets- involve in blood clothing.
And plasma the liquid component that
carries cells, nutrients, hormones and
waste.
What is RBC? Expected Answer: Red blood Cell
What is it’s function? Expected Answer: Carry oxygen
How about WBC Expected Answer: White Blood Cell
Function? Expected Answer: Fights infection
Very Good!
E. Elaborate
Generalization
Now let’s go to your takeaways I will call
3 lucky students.
(the students show there learnings by recitation )
Values Integration
What do you think is the importance of
Exercise regularly
Expected Answer: it helps us to maintain healthy.
Application (Group Activity)
Group 1- complete the following hidden
words.
Group 2- identify the answer.
Group 3- label the parts.
