TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The title "Study 1 – EdD/PhD of The Future of Graduate Education" encapsulates an exploration into
evolving models of doctoral education, addressing both the current needs and emerging trends within the
field. This study seeks to critically examine the EdD and PhD pathways, identifying their unique roles and
contributions to the broader academic landscape. As graduate education continues to adapt to societal and
technological shifts, it is essential to evaluate whether existing structures meet the demands of modern
scholars, researchers, and practitioners. By doing so, this project aims to contribute to the ongoing dialogue
about the future of graduate education and the specific skills, knowledge, and competencies these programs
should foster in future leaders.
RATIONALE
Additionally, this study addresses the increasing demand for innovative, interdisciplinary approaches in
graduate education, particularly as professionals seek doctoral degrees that not only advance knowledge but
also have practical applications. The project explores how EdD and PhD programs can adapt to meet these
demands, potentially offering insights into program enhancements that prepare graduates to contribute
effectively within their fields. Through this investigation, the study aims to identify strategies to foster both
academic rigor and professional applicability in doctoral education, ensuring these programs remain relevant
and effective in preparing graduates for impactful careers.
The main objective of this study is to examine the evolving roles and expectations of EdD and PhD
programs within graduate education, focusing on how these programs can better align with the demands of
contemporary academia and industry. Specifically, this research aims to identify key competencies,
OBJECTIVES interdisciplinary approaches, and structural adaptations that enhance the relevance and applicability of
doctoral programs. By analyzing current practices and gathering insights from both academic and
professional stakeholders, the study seeks to inform future strategies for designing impactful and forward-
looking EdD and PhD curricula..
