Which is the best career for you?
By Elena Irías, Sofía López, Valeria Lara and Óscar Ocampo.
In the last decades of the 20th century there was an important development in upper
secondary education. The higher degree was considered an academic training
requirement that had to be taken immediately after completing undergraduate
studies. A large number of young graduates are pressured by the need to choose an
academic or research area that will allow them to complete their work at a higher
level. But this should not be the specific path to follow in life for all students.
Steps to choose a career
Choosing the right career path can be a challenging but crucial decision. It’s a choice
that influences not only your academic journey but also your future work life and
satisfaction. You can know with this two steps. First, assess your interests and
passions, start by reflecting on what you enjoy doing. Consider hobbies, subjects, or
activities that excite you. Your career should align with things that naturally interest
you, as this will sustain your motivation in the long run. Second one, identify your
strengths, take time to analyze what you’re good at. This can be done through
self-assessments, talking to people who know you well, or even taking career
aptitude tests. Knowing your strengths can point you toward fields where you’re
more likely to excel. The next step is research career options, once you have a
clearer idea of your interests and strengths, explore various career paths. Look at job
descriptions, industry demands, and future growth. Make sure to assess the
long-term outlook for careers you are considering to ensure they offer sustainability
and growth. The next step is to consider your values, think about what matters
most to you. Some people value creativity, while others prioritize job security or the
chance to make a social impact. Understanding your core values can help you align
your career choice with what brings you fulfillment. The fifth step is to seek
guidance, talking to professionals in the fields you're considering can provide
insights that you might not find online. Career counselors, mentors, or industry
experts can help you understand what the day-to-day reality of a job looks like,
offering a practical perspective. And the last step is stay open to change, it’s okay if
your career interests evolve over time. Many people change their career paths
during their lifetime. Stay adaptable and continuously learn to stay ahead in your
chosen field.
Career Paths in a Company
A career path describes what a person can do in a company or during their career.
This is more than a to-do list. Consider a comprehensive roadmap. The tour starts
from the employee's current location, the tour can be short or long duration. The
work path includes the entire route, including all the twists, turns and stops that the
worker must make to reach the final destination. These may include job changes and
changes, taking employees from entry level to senior level and vice versa with a
different approach.
Formal Careers
A career is an individual's 'journey' of lifelong learning, working, extensive training
and learning new skills. It can be described as employment or a vocation that
generally involves some specialized training or formal study.
Most Popular Careers
Some of the most popular careers today are technology, such as software
development and data science, healthcare like nursing and medicine, and business
fields like finance and marketing. Engineering and environmental science are also
growing areas with high demand.
Non Traditional careers
As we mentioned, the path of life is not written in stone, there are many ways to have
a career and not specifically formal.
Entrepreneur. An entrepreneur who focuses on the project and works hard to get
what he wants will become a successful entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is more
than anything an attitude towards life, because entrepreneurs are good at looking
around to identify business opportunities.
Internship. An internship is a professional learning experience that offers
meaningful, practical work related to a student's field of study or career interest. An
internship gives a student the opportunity for career exploration and development,
and to learn new skills.ooooo
Why isn't there just one way to go?
People are different and constantly changing, not everyone in life will follow the
same path, whether it is called a professional career or an undertaking. Just as we
are different, we have different abilities and we can develop different skills, really with
a lot of discipline you can do anything, of course it is humanly possible, and if not
you can even invent it, the great scientists at all times have developed and patented
your best projects based on mistakes just as Thomas Alva Edison he always said "I
had more than a thousand failures and I patented them all", why does it hurt us so
much to make them? Of course they have consequences but finally in this article we
invite you to take risks and follow the path that you decide you like, do not let
someone else do it for you, obviously it has risks but in the end it will be easier for
that you accept the consequences because you will be happy that you decided what
you wanted.
