CHAPTER 2
NEED IDENTIFICATION
2.1 About the Project
The Khurja Super Thermal Power Project is a significant power generation initiative
located in Khurja, Uttar Pradesh, India. It is designed to provide a substantial boost to
the region's electricity generation capacity and meet the ever-growing demand for
power in the state and the country. The project is a joint venture between THDC India
Limited (formerly known as Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Ltd) and the
Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), both of which are
prominent entities in the power sector. The Khurja Super Thermal Power Project aims
to leverage advanced technologies and best practices in the power generation domain
to establish a high-efficiency, environmentally friendly, and economically viable
power plant. The project primarily focuses on using supercritical technology, which
results in better efficiency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions compared to
conventional thermal power plants.
The proposed capacity of the Khurja Super Thermal Power Project is substantial, with
an expected generation capacity of several thousand megawatts. This significant
capacity will contribute significantly to meeting the energy needs of the region,
boosting industrial growth, and enhancing socio-economic development in the
surrounding areas.
To ensure environmental sustainability, the project incorporates advanced emission
control technologies to minimize the release of harmful pollutants like sulfur dioxide,
nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter. Additionally, it emphasizes water
conservation measures to minimize the impact on the local water resources.
The project is anticipated to provide a significant number of employment
opportunities during the construction phase and subsequent operation and
maintenance. Furthermore, it will facilitate the development of ancillary industries,
thereby boosting the local economy. However, it is essential to note that as the project
involves large-scale land acquisition and infrastructure development, there might be
concerns related to displacement and environmental impacts. Therefore, the
authorities responsible for the project must take adequate measures to address these

3
issues responsibly and engage with local communities to ensure their concerns are
addressed appropriately.
In conclusion, the Khurja Super Thermal Power Project is a vital initiative to
strengthen India's power infrastructure and enhance the energy security of the region.

2.2 Objectives

1. To analyze the construction process and documentation protocols for the
residential building project at THDCIL Khurja.
2. To evaluate the adherence to quality norms and timelines in executing the
construction tasks.
3. To compile a comprehensive project report detailing the bar bending schedule,
planning strategies, and quality maintenance measures implemented.
