A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 4

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Multiply up to 3-digit numbers by up to 2-digit numbers without regrouping.
2. Solving problems involving multi-digit multiplication.
3. Apply the concept of multiplication in real-life situations.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: Multiplying Numbers up to Three Digits by numbers up to Two Digits without
regrouping
B. Reference: K-12 Curriculum Guide, Learner’s Material Math Grade 4, p. 23-27
C. Material: Flashcards, Pictures, Illustrations

III. PROCEDURE

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. Preliminary Activity

1. Prayer

Class lets us all stand and feel the (The students will stand)
presence of the Lord.

Irish, please lead the prayer. Our Father, Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy Kingdom comes.
Thy Will be done,
on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against
us. And lead us not into temptation but
deliver us from evil. Amen.

2. Drill

(Mathematics dance)

3. Greeting “Good morning, Teacher!”

“Good morning, Classmate!”
Good morning, Class! “It’s nice to see you.”

“We’re good teacher.”

How was your day?

That’s good to hear! so can I expect a full “Yes, Teacher”

blast of energy and active participation
from you?

4. Classroom Management Students will arrange their chairs and will

pick up the trash.
Before you take your seat, please pick up
those scattered pieces of plastic and paper
under your chair and arrange your chairs
properly.

5. Checking of attendance (The students will respond)

I will check your attendance and as I call

your name instead of saying present, you
will say Darna.
G.O.O.D J.O.B, Good Job! Good Job
hey!
Since you are all present, give yourself a Good job! Good Job hey!
good job clap.

B. Review
“We have studied multiplication.”
Before we proceed to our new lesson, let’s
have first a review of our lesson
yesterday. So, what have you studied
yesterday.

That’s right. We talked about

multiplication. In multiplication, the two
numbers that are being multiplied are
called factors. Composed of multiplicand
and multiplier.
“Multiplicand is the number that is being
What is multiplicand? multiplied and has the highest value.”

“Multiplier is the number that we multiply

What is Multiplier? and has the lowest value.”

When we multiply two numbers, what do “Product”

we call their answer?

C. Motivation

“a mango tree”
What do you see in the picture?
(the students will answer the question and
Do you have fruits trees farm/backyard? share their own experience)

“Yes, because it releases air that we

Is it good to plant trees? Why? breath.”

“We can harvest fruits from it”

D. Lesson Proper

So, our lesson today is about Multiplying

Numbers up to Three Digits by numbers
up to Two Digits without regrouping.
I have posted a problem on the board. Can
you read the problem?
(Student read the problem)
Mang Leo harvested his mango tree and
got 231 pieces of mangoes, and he sells
the mango at 23 pesos per piece. How
much he would earn if he sold the 231
pieces of mangoes?

We can also write the factors vertically to

easily perform the operation as shown on
the board:
231
x 23

We multiply a three-digit by a two-digit

number using the short method.

Step 1: multiply the ones place of the

multiplicand by the ones place of the
multiplier.
231
x 23
3

Step 2: Multiply the tens place of the

multiplicand by the ones place of the
multiplier.

231
x 23
93

Step 3: Multiply the hundreds place of the

multiplicand by the ones place of the
multiplier.

231
x 23
693

Step 4: Multiply the ones place of the

multiplicand by the tens place of the
multiplier.

231
x 23
693
2

Step 4: Multiply the tens place of the

multiplicand by the tens place of the
multiplier.

231
x 23
693
62

Step 6: Multiply the hundred place of

multiplicand by the tens place of the
multiplier.

231
x 23
693
+ 462
5313

So, the product is 5313. Therefor Mang

Leo earns 5313 pesos.

E. Generalization
“By using a short method.”
1. How do you multiply a 3-digit by
a 2-digit number without
regrouping?
“When using short method, we follow this
2. How was the short method done? step:”

F. Application

Directions: Read and analyze each

problem, then solve what is being asked in
the problem. Show your solution.

1. In Baguio, pine seedlings are

packed in boxes of 12. How many
seedlings are in 144 boxes?
2. Ella reads 18 fun facts every day at
bedtime. How many fun facts will
she read in 365 days.
3. Alex sold 152 sets of dinnerware
in a month, if each set contained
14 pieces. How many pieces were
sold in all?

IV. EVALUATION
Direction: Find the product of the following using the short method. Put your answer in
your mathematics
notebook.
V. ASSIGNMENT

A. Using the short method, find the product.

B. Solve the problem.

Mrs. Garcia has a gift shop in Baguio City. She sells native
products like bags and wood figurines. Use the table below to
answer the following question.
