Work integrated learning is an academical way that combines schoolwork and
practical work experiences. The values of work integrated learning that I have
developed are skills development where I have the importance of
communication, understanding, and problem-solving are critical for team work to
understand my own strengths and weaknesses; to develop a strong work ethic
and professional attitude towards my teammates, I have learnt to develop a
sense of accountability and responsibility by completing task which displays
reliability and commitment within my teammates.
Skills I have learned:
1.Communication and Problem-Solving Skills:
I have learnt that communication is important because my group fell apart
because of the lack of communication, we communicated properly in person but
in the WhatsApp group we did not, unfortunately we did not do any of the
problem solving, because during milestone 2 my team member Faith did not
submit the milestone 2 on time and we let that slide, during the milestone 3 we
had technical issues and she was not helping us but I did get help to fix the error
the following day, unfortunately I did not solve the problem, because one of my
teammates decided to exclude herself from the group and do the milestone 3 by
herself and me and the group leader did the milestone 3 together. And even
milestone 3 we still had lack of communication and misunderstanding, because
the group leader Karabo Sebopela said she was experiencing loadshedding, I was
unable to submit the website in git hub. I also learnt that to over speak a
members opinion or suggestion.
2.Teamwork and Time Management Skills:
Me and my teammates did a good teamwork before we separated, because we
combined good ideas in the beginning of the milestone if we did not
miscommunicate, and misunderstood, we could have made a good teamwork.
And regarding the time management we experienced lack of it during the
milestone 2, and during the milestone 3 there was lack of time management
because I was unable to submit it in GitHub.
3.Professionalism Skills:
I have learned that I have I should understand the difference between friendships
and colleagues, that there are some situations I should have I approached them
during our entire project as colleagues because I approached them as
friendships, instead of colleagues.
My role in the team:
During milestone 2 I choose to do the website, and we all agreed, Karabo
Sebopela choose to do the typing of the website and mobile application
presentation, and Faith choose to do the mobile application. We did not fix the
conflict because our group fell apart.
Research, Technology, and the
Presentation of information:
For the presentation me and Karabo used power point to explain the website and
the mobile application for the milestone 3, and for the video we used skype
because we were far from each other and need an application that will be able
for us to record the video and also screen record the screen to display our
presentation slides with the audience.
Personal Strength and Weakness:
I was good in brainstorming, being accountable, responsible, transparent, and
trustworthy during the project, I had lacked the skills of communication,
understanding, and problem solving, I have seen my weaknesses to improve
them.
I had lack communication, understanding, to be honest I have also lacked
submitting on time during milestone 3, lack of considering Faith’s trust because
that made her think that I am irresponsible regarding my school task
I did well in brainstorming during part 1 in, I did well in designing my website,
and mobile application, understanding that everyone ideas are right and if not
we as a group will fix that, asking for their opinions on whether I did my part the
correct way.
Stakeholder Relationship:
Our relationship was good in the beginning of the project, but during the
milestone 2 things took a turn, that was when our relationship had conflicts
because Faith was not submitting her part on required time, and during the
milestone 3 things grew worse we started having big conflicts about the website
which Karabo did not even start by that time and I was struggling with an error I
did not understand regarding the mobile application. So our relationship was bad
when we were communicating through the group chat, but in person it was good,
the problem was that Karabo could not be able to come to campus because of
her family issues, and when me and our ex team member would contact her, she
would not contact back on time.
Impact:
I think Faith did an excellent job in designing the mobile application, and
brainstorming, Karabo did an excellent job designing the logo that we all agreed
upon, in assisting me with typing the presentation on power point, she did an
excellent job in presenting without interrupting me and doing her part.
In conclusion the work integrated learning has made me experience working as a
team, that I must understand when not to mix up friendships and colleagues
during teamwork, it made me see my weakness to improve on and strengths, it
has made me realise the importance of communication and understanding one
another.
