Example 1

The area of a regular hexagon 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷𝐸𝐹 is given as 12 cm2. 𝑀, 𝑁, 𝑃 are midpoints of 𝐴𝐵,
𝐶𝐷 and 𝐸𝐹 respectively. Find the area of ∆𝑀𝑁𝑃.

Find the area of the shaded region, given that the square is inscribed in a right-angled
isosceles triangle.

The area of ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶 is 180 cm2. 𝐷 is the midpoint of 𝐵𝐶, 𝐴𝐷 = 3𝐴𝐸, 𝐸𝐹 = 3𝐵𝐹. What is the

Practice 2
Two straight lines 𝐵𝐷 and 𝐶𝐹 divide rectangle 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷 into 4 regions: 𝑃, 𝑄, 𝑅 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑆. Find
the area of the region 𝑆, given that the areas of region 𝑃 and region 𝑄 are 4 cm2 and 6 cm2,
respectively.

Two walking paths were constructed on a rectangular piece of grassland as shown. Find the
area of the grassland. [Hint: Area of parallelogram = Base × Height]

Practice 3
The side length of square 𝐸𝐹𝐺𝐻 is given as 10 cm. 𝐵 is a point on 𝐸𝐹. Find the area of the
shaded region if the area of the quadrilateral 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷 is 6 cm2.

Example 4
The figure is a square made of 4 identical right-angled triangles. A small square is thus
formed in the middle.2𝐻𝐸 = 𝐸𝐵, area of square 𝐸𝐹𝐺𝐻 = 7. Find the area of square 𝐴𝐵𝐶𝐷.

Practice 4
In ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶, 𝐷, 𝐸 and 𝐹 are midpoints of 𝐴𝐹, 𝐵𝐷 and 𝐶𝐸 respectively. Find the area of ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶,
if area of ∆𝐷𝐸𝐹 is given as 12 cm2.
