arrive on stage. Request either the Director or the Prinicipal
(whoever’s present) to felicitate him. Now you must request the
speaker to take his seat the dais.

‘”Now, it’s my pleasure to introduce our chief speaker for today’s
Faculty Development Program. Their extensive knowledge will
provide us with valuable insights into today’s topic.
Our chief speaker for today is IEEE-IAS Kolkata section’s former
chairman, Prof. Sujit K. Biswas who received the B.E.E. degree in
Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata and the M.E.
degree in Electrical Engineering as well as the PhD from the Indian
Institute of Science, Bangalore. He joined the faculty of the
Department of Electrical Engineering, Jadavpur University, Kolkata, in
July 1987, where he was a Professor and has served as the Head of
the Department. At present, he is a Visiting Professor with the same
Department, continuing PhD supervision. He is the Dean (Academic)
of St. Thomas College of Engg. and Technology, Kolkata and a
Professor of Electrical Engg. His fields of interest are static power
conversion, electrical drives, power semiconductor applications,
magnetics and applied electronics. He has been associated with
several Government of India bodies and agencies as an Expert in the
area of academic quality improvement and Power Electronics related
activities. He has also been associated as a consultant with several
major industries in India to develop indigenous technologies in the
area of Power Electronics and Drives. Dr. Biswas is a Fellow of the
Institution of Engineers (India), a Fellow of the Institution of
Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India) and a Senior
Member of the Institution of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (USA).
He received several awards, amongst which are the Indian National
Science Academy Medal for young Scientists and the IETE-Bimal Bose
Award for “Outstanding contribution in the field of Power
Electronics”. He is the Past Chairman of the IEEE IAS Kolkata Chapter,
Past Chairman of the IEEE Kolkata Section and Past Vice Chair
Technical Activities of IEEE India Council. He was also a Member of
the IEEE Region 10 Conference and Technical Seminar Committee.”
