Khoi's Worksheets: Enriched Multiplication and Division
This enriched booklet focuses on multiplication and division for Grade 4 students, following the
Alberta curriculum. Each section includes a brief explanation, tips, and plenty of practice problems
with a mix of basic and challenging questions.
Multiplication
Multiplication is a faster way to add the same number multiple times. For example, 4 x 3 means
adding 4 three times (4 + 4 + 4 = 12). Remember that multiplication can be done in any order, so 4 x
3 is the same as 3 x 4.
Enrichment Tip: When multiplying larger numbers, break them down into smaller parts. For example,
to solve 12 x 4, you can split 12 into 10 + 2, then multiply each part by 4:
(10 x 4) + (2 x 4) = 40 + 8 = 48. This technique is called the distributive property.
Practice Problems:
1. 7 x 8 = ____ 2. 12
3. 9 x 5 = ____ 4. 13
5. 15 x 3 = ____ 6. 14
7. 9 x 12 = ____ 8. 8 x
9. 6 x 14 = ____ 10. 7
11. 16 x 5 = ____ 12. 1
13. 25 x 4 = ____ (Use the distributive property!) 14. 1
15. What is 9 x 9? 16. M
17. Find the product of 17 x 6. 18. S
19. Calculate 24 x 8 using the distributive property. 20. W
Division
Division is the process of splitting a number into equal parts. For example, 12 ÷ 4 means splitting 12
into 4 equal groups, which gives 3 in each group. The number being divided is called the 'dividend,'
the number you divide by is the 'divisor,' and the answer is the 'quotient.'
Enrichment Tip: When dividing larger numbers, use long division or break the number into smaller,
more manageable chunks. For example, to divide 84 ÷ 7, think about how many times 7 goes into
84 by breaking 84 into smaller parts, such as (70 + 14).
Practice Problems:
1. 72 ÷ 8 = ____ 2. 14
3. 81 ÷ 9 = ____ 4. 10
5. 96 ÷ 8 = ____ 6. 12
7. 132 ÷ 11 = ____ 8. 15
9. 90 ÷ 6 = ____ 10. 8
11. Divide 108 ÷ 9. 12. W
13. 99 ÷ 3 = ____ 14. D
15. How many times does 6 fit into 72? 16. F
17. Solve 225 ÷ 15 using long division. 18. C
19. Divide 180 ÷ 9. (Try breaking it into smaller parts!) 20. W
