5. In a polymer emulsion production company, two mixing tanks are 2 1 3
connected in series, as illustrated in Figure.1. The inlet flowrates for
tanks 1 and 2 are q(t) and q1(t), respectively. Tank having cross sectional
area A1 (tank-1) and A2 (tank-2) have liquid levels h1 and h2,
respectively. Assume flowrate of q1(t) is not depends on the h2. The R1
and R2 are resistance associated by the outlet pipe lines of the tank-1
and tank-2 respectively. Also consider the density of the fluid is not
changing during the mixing operation. Obtain the expression for the
response of liquid level in tank-2, if a unit step change is made in the
inlet flow to tank-1. Elucidate the graphical representation time domain
response for this system.

Mixing tanks in series.
Two non-interacting systems are connected in series. The time constants
are: t1 = 0.5, t2 = 1.0 and R2 = 1. Obtain an expression for the response
of liquid level in tank 2, if a unit step change is made in the inlet flow to
tank 1.
