present ages.
16. A and B have a certain number of mangoes each. A says to B, “If you give me 10 of
your mangoes, I will have twice the number of mangoes left with you”. B replies, “If
you give me 10 of your mangoes, I will have the same number of mangoes as left
with you”. Find the number of mangoes with A and B separately.
17. In a two-digit number, the ten’s digit is three times the unit’s digit. When the
number is decreased by 54, the digits interchange their places. Find the number.
18. A father’s age is 3 times the sum of ages of his two children. After 5 years, his age
will be twice the sum of the ages of his children. Find the age of the father.
19. Students of a class are made to stand in rows. If 4 students are extra in a row, there
would be two rows less. If 4 students are less in a row, there would be four more
rows. Find the number of students in the class.
20. A person invested some amount at the rate of 10% simple interest and some other
amount at the rate of 12% simple interest. He received a yearly interest of ` 130. But
if he had interchanged the amounts invested, he should have received ` 4 more as
interest. Find the amounts invested at each rate.
21. The area of a rectangle gets reduced by 80 cm2 if the length is reduced by 5 cm and
the breadth is increased by 2 cm. If we increase the length by 10 cm and decrease
the breadth by 5 cm, the area is increased by 50 cm2. Find the length and breadth of
the rectangle.

23. The taxi charges in a city comprise of a fixed charge together with the charge for the
distance covered. For a journey of 10 km, the charge paid is ` 75 and for a journey of
15 km, the charge paid is ` 110. What will a person have to pay for traveling 25 km?
24. On selling a tea–set at 5% loss and a lemon–set at 15% gain, a crockery seller gains
` 7. If he sells the tea–set at 5% gain and the lemon–set at 10% gain, he gains ` 13.
Find the cost price of the tea–set and the lemon–set.

1. Mr. R K Agrawal is the owner of a famous amusement park in Delhi. Generally, he does
not go to the park, and it is managed by a team of staff. The ticket charge for the park is
` 150 for children and ` 400 for adults. One day Mr. Agrawal decided to randomly check
the park and went there. When he checked the cash counter, he found that 480 tickets
were sold and ` 134500 was collected.
a) How many children attended?
b) How many adults attended?
c) How much amount collected if 300 children and 350 adults attended?
2. In the 1961–1962 NBA basketball season, Wilt Chamberlain of the Philadelphia Warriors
made 30 baskets. Some of the baskets were free throws (worth 1 point each) and some
were field goals (worth 2 points each). The number of field goals was 10 more than the
number of free throws.
