i. This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.


ii. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions. A student is

and 10 respectively. Which solution is :

alkaline? Arrange the solutions in increasing order of H+ ion concentration.
(ii) Write the name and formula of (1) an acidic salt and (2) a basic salt giving the name of
the parent acid and parent base used to form the salt in each case.

34. b) Name and state in brief the process that is used to prepare sodium hydroxide from 3 +2
sodium chloride. In this process along with the main product two gases ‘X’ and ‘Y’ are
also given off at the two electrodes. Name ‘X’ and ‘Y’ specifying the name of their
respective electrode at which each gas is obtained. One of these gases when reacts with dry
calcium hydroxide produces a compound ‘Z’ which is widely used in water treatment
plants and textile industries. Name Z and write the chemical equation for the reaction
involved in its formation

35. a) Upper half of a convex lens is covered with a black paper. Draw a ray diagram to show 3 +2
the formation of image of an object placed at a distance 2F from such a lens. Mention the
position and nature of the image formed. State the observable difference in the image
obtained if the lens is uncovered. Give reason to justify your answer.
b) A 14 year old student is not able to see clearly the questions written on the black board
placed at a distance of 5 m from him.
i) Name the defect of vision he is suffering from
ii) Name the type of lens used to correct this defect

36. A group of students is studying the process of photosynthesis in plants. They place a plant
in a dark room for 48 hours and then expose it to sunlight for 6 hours. They place a leaf in
an iodine solution and observe the changes. The leaf turns blue-black

i) What is the process shown in the experiment? Explain it in detail. (2 marks)

ii) Why was the plant kept in the dark for 48 hours before the experiment? (1 mark)

iii) How does the plant use sunlight in the process of photosynthesis? (2 marks)

37. When an electric current flows in a purely resistive circuit electrical energy gets fully 4
converted into heat energy. The amount of heat produced (H) in the circuit is found to be
directly proportional to (i) the square of current (ii) the resistance of the conductor and (iii)
the time for which the current flows. In other words H=I2RT. Electrical devices such as an
electric heater, electric fuse, electric iron etc.are all based on this effect called heating
effect of electric current.

38. Salts play a very important role in our daily life. Sodium chloride which is known as 4
common salt is used in almost in every kitchen. Baking soda is also a salt used in faster
cooking as well as in baking industry. The family of salts is classified on the basis of
cations and anions present in them.
a) Identify the acid and base from which sodium chloride is formed.
b) Find the cation and anion present in Calcium Sulphate
c) “Sodium chloride and washing soda both belong to the same family of salts”.
Justify this statement.

c) Define the term pH scale. Name the salt obtained by the reaction of Potassium
hydroxide and Sulphuric acid and given the pH value of its aqueous solution.

39. A Hydra is a small freshwater organism that reproduces asexually by budding. The
offspring grows from the parent organism and detaches when it is fully developed.

i) How does sexual reproduction differ from asexual reproduction in Hydra ( 1 mark)
ii) How does asexual reproduction benefit organisms like Hydra? (1 mark)
iii) Explain the process of budding in Hydra. (2 marks)
