FILE TAB
- In Microsoft Word and other Microsoft Office products, the file tab provides access to
common file actions, such as New, Open, and Save.
QUICK ACCESS TOOL BAR
- It is a customizable toolbar that comes with a set of independent commands. It gives you quick
access to commonly used commands such as Save, Undo, Redo, etc.
RIBBON TABS
- The ribbon tab in Microsoft Word is a command bar that organizes a program's features into a
series of tabs at the top of the screen. Each tab contains groups of related commands that
help users quickly find what they need.
TITLE BAR
- The title bar in Microsoft Word is a horizontal strip at the top of the window that displays the
name of the open document and the software title.
RIBBON
- The ribbon is a set of toolbars at the top of the window in Office programs designed to help you
quickly find the commands that you need to complete a task.
WINDOWS CONTROLS
- The icon in the top left corner is known as the control menu and the three buttons in the top
right hand corner provide shortcuts for commands on this menu.
HELP BUTTON
- The Help Button is a control that the user can click to display the application help system.
TAB SELECTOR
- The tab selector (tab indicator) – a small button located in the left corner of the horizontal
ruler that supplies the user with a variety of tab marker (tab stop) options (left, right, center,
etc.).
HORIZONTAL RULER
- The horizontal ruler is a tool that appears at the top of the document and helps with aligning
text, graphics, and other elements
VERTICAL RULER
- In Microsoft Word, the vertical ruler is a tool that appears on the left side of the page and helps
align images and tables.
CURSOR
- The cursor is a flashing line that indicates where text or objects will be placed in a document.
It's also known as the insertion point.
DOCUMENT AREA
- The document area is the area where the user types the text in a Word document. It is a blank
section of a word processor. It allows the user to create content.
VERTICAL SCROLL BAR
- A vertical scroll bar in Microsoft Word is a tool that allows users to scroll the contents of a
window up or down. It is usually located on the right side of a window.
DOCUMENT INFORMATION/STATUS BAR
- The status bar is at the bottom of the document window and displays information about your
document (page number, # of words, proofing errors, language)
VIEW BUTTONS
- These change the layout view of the document to normal, web layout, print layout, and outline
view.
ZOOM TOOLS
- The zoom tools in Microsoft Word allow you to zoom in or out of a document to get a close-up
view or see more of the page.
BROWSE BUTTONS
- The Select Browse Object button is located at the bottom of the vertical scroll bar and can be
used to navigate through a document by type of object.
VIEW RULER BUTTON
- The View Ruler button in Microsoft Word controls whether or not to display the horizontal and
vertical rulers on the document.
