Panic Attack
Panic attack: A panic attack is a sudden episode of intense fear or
discomfort that reaches a peak within minutes. It is often accompanied by
physical symptoms like a racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness,
or chest pain, even though there is no real danger present.Four or more
of a specific set of physical symptoms accompany a panic attack
Persistent concern or worry: After experiencing at least one panic attack,
the individual becomes concerned about having more attacks. This worry is
not fleeting; it lasts for at least a month. They may fear when the next
attack will occur or worry about what could happen during an attack, such
as losing control, going crazy, or even dying.
Maladaptive behavior: In response to the fear of having another panic
attack, the person might change their behavior in unhealthy ways. For
example, they may start avoiding places or situations where they think an
attack might occur, such as public spaces, work, school, or social
gatherings. This avoidance can disrupt their daily life, as they may
withdraw from normal activities to try and prevent future attacks.
