Opening speech :
Hello and good morning ma’am and fellow students. I am erfe and we are
in favor of the ban of violent video games.
To begin with I am going to be talking about why gaming can result in
raging more often. To start off, I would like to briefly explain what rating
is. Raging, or also known as Gamer rage can happen to some people
playing difficult video games resulting in the player being very stressed,
angry or frustrated. In some situations, this can also cause people to be
violent. Resulting in harm to themselves or somebody else. The better
health channel shows that the long term effects of uncontrolled anger
include increased anxiety, high blood pressure and headaches.
Rebuttal: gamers do not feel compassion or empathy while gaming, since
they spend most of their time in the video game killing animals and
people for points, earning experience or completing quests. Since they do
this, they become very used to it, and impressionable young minds may
not think much of this. Causing them to not feel empathetic or
compassionate towards others.
Rebuttal: A point you all said, was it helps in better communication skills.
This actually doesnt happen in many games, since many violent video
games are one person games and the only live person playing is you. Even
in games where you can talk to people, they might not be the friendliest.
Cyber bullying can happen and this can result in hesitation to make
friends or open up to others.
Hi I'mrefe. Video games are usually meant for you to be addicted to it,
that’s the reason why you may feel like playing a certain game for a really
long time and not leave it. This can cause you to forget about or
procrastinate studying which can have massive consequences in near
future as academics is really important for children. Secondly Playing
violent video games for long periods of time can hold back the "moral
maturity" of teenagers, according to a study in Canada.
In-depth research into the behaviour of about 100 13- and 14-year-olds
found that over-exposure to violent games can weaken empathy for
others. More than half of these teenagers were found to be playing
violent video games every single day. Brock University academics studied
the behaviour of pupils at seven schools in Ontario, trying to understand
the relationship between the type of violent video games played, the
length of time spent playing and how it might affect their attitudes. The
study found that playing video games was highly prevalent among this
age group, usually between one and three hours a day - and playing
violent games was very common.
All this can cause massive changes in a child's attitude such as
carelessness, and less to no respect towards others . I would now like to
hand over to
Rebuttling points :
Social connections : Cyberbullying
Reduce stress : increase stress
I am dqebr. With the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders, many
children and teens spent even more time playing video games to socialize
with friends, since they couldn't get together in person.Violence against
animals in video games is present. Players can kill or torture animals in
various popular games, including Minecraft and Grand Theft Auto V..Both
animals and humans are often portrayed as objects to kill and harm for
fun in gaming. However, animals are presented in even more disposable
ways. They are often mere tools for players to kill to complete quests or to
gain materials and trophies. During gaming, particularly in children
under age 10 develop Increased aggressive thoughts and aggressive
behaviors. People who are addicted to video games also have increased
emotional difficulties, including increased depression and anxiety.Every
day, games like League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Fortnite, Final
Fantasy, and Minecraft draw millions of players into their virtual
worlds. Some side effects of cyberbullying also been noticed when If
someone is not performing well in a game, other players may curse or
make negative remarks that can turn into bullying, or even exclude the
person from playing together. I would like to hand it over to .
Gamers 26-35 years old play for eight hours 12 minutes per week. This increased
more than 25 percent in the last year. However, younger gamers spend even
more time playing, with those age 26-35 playing eight hours 12 minutes each
week. Germans spend more time playing than gamers in any other country at
nearly eight hours per week. South Koreans spend the least time playing each
week at six hours 41 minutes.
I am eiubf. Violent video games not only cause harm to our mental health
but also to our physical health. Gamers that are completely addicted to
violent video games sometimes suffer from insomnia, hand injuries like
carpal tunnel syndrome, gaming disorders, and also might consume
unhealthy substances like alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and more. A study
conducted by the PMC Labs, in the year 2011, concluded that gamers
consume dangerous substances while playing violent games. 41% of the
gamers that were assessed consume caffeine. 61% consume tobacco. 38%
consume alcohol and 80% consume marijuana.
Several studies prove that gamers experience poor sleep and insomnia
due to playing late or even because of their addiction to certain games.
Moreover, the time people spend trying to fall asleep has increased. The
reason for this is because your mind works hard while you game, and
works harder while you play violent games at night, so your mind
continues to work and function. Since games require you to be fast-paced
and alert, your mind continues to be like that while you try to sleep and
People spend less time in deep-stage sleep. Furthermore, gamers are
tempted to stay up late for longer because of violent video games.
The light that screens emit are harmful to the eyes of gamers, and also
deprives them of sleep. This increases eyestrain, headaches, and fatigue
in the face. To talk about our next topic is ec.
Hi I am jhbdaand a gamer too and while gaming can help in many ways I
will be talking about 2 disadvantages which are quite common and if you
will be taking it as a career or a side job it has a high possibility to burn a
hole in your wallet and a research made by BullGuard and custom PC
builder Chillblast shows that 17% of gamers spend approximately $123 per
year or 9,330 rupees and knowing 20% of video game players are under
the age of 18 and 30% of gamers having a intern job in which they do not
get paid as often as they can spend it which can cause in debt. A lot of
gamers need to play regularly to either grind or getting ingame
advantages by wining daily quests and can cause tendonitis in their
hands, carpal tunnel syndrome and arthritis in their hands.Gaming can
also affect mental helth and cause so many problems such as gaming
addiction, negative coping mechanisms, unhealthy lifestyles, loneliness
and isolation, depression and even suicidal ideation. People who stream
video games and grind a lot play around 30 hours per week and just for
reference we have 32.5 hours of school itself and there are only 168 hours
in a week and so that is 62.5 hours in a week and now (eriusdbr)since I
can’t pass it on I conclude this round for our team.
Loss of employment will not exactly happen if violent video games will be
banned because of 2 reasons 1 because there are alot of non violent video
games which can also be streamed and 2 as i said before 30% of gamers
have intern or new jobs in which they lose it on ingame purchases and if
they can't do that they can earn enough money to feed themselves and
even others. And thinking of objects in 3D is not really a problem as all of
us can do that and seeing depth can also be helped by painting or drawing.
Positive attributes can be thrown out of the window as all gamers
especially in shooters need to think about killing and even in minecraft a
lot of things can only be achieved by killing mobs and bosses.
Communication can affect ears as most of the time as a lot of time when
people are scream as they got a kill or crying when the ender dragon
killed them and can affect other gamers in the same call and can even
cause hearing loss and strategies are mailly when people are startigezing
in boat clutches or how to kill others in manhunts cause again aggressive
thoughts about killing. Which can actually affect a ral kid or a teen
causing them to actually kill and even if you lose as i mentioned before a
lot of people can be affected as recently a was given sucide suggestions
and he recently took his life at the age 31
Rebuttal points :
● While video games can help in some socializing, through the same
platform there can be cyber bullying :
● Only free movement games such as minecraft fortnite and roblox
allow you to be creative and other than war tactics all other non
violent games but games such as COD do not allow you.
● People who play video games spend an average of seven hours seven
minutes each week playing. Playing time has increased 19.3 percent
in the last year.
● Gamers 26-35 years old play for eight hours 12 minutes per week.
This increased more than 25 percent in the last year.:
● Mobile phones are the most commonly used devices for playing
video games.
● Gamers overwhelmingly prefer downloading as their primary
means for acquiring video games, with 64 percent choosing this
method. This number has grown 12 percent in the last year.
● Nearly 85 percent of gamers find the process of downloading games
frustrating. Slow download speeds are the primary issue.
● Casual single-player games are played more often than any other
type of video game. However, gamers 18-25 prefer to play
First-Person Shooter and Battle Royale games such as Fortnite.
● Gamers watch sports on television more often than they watch
other people playing games on sites such as Twitch. However,
gamers 18-25 spend 77 percent more time watching other people
playing online than watching broadcast sports, and those 26-35
spend nearly the same amount of time watching online gaming as
broadcast sports.
● Fast performance is the most important consideration when playing
a video game.
● Gamers play for an average of 1 hour 22 minutes at a time. The
average longest time gamers have ever consecutively played is four
hours 19 minutes. 10 percent have played for 10 or more hours
consecutively.
● More than 35 percent of gamers who work play video games while at
work at least once a month.
● 36 percent of gamers would quit their jobs if they could support
themselves as professional video gamers. More than 57 percent of
male gamers 18-35 want to become professional gamers.
● More than half of gamers have missed sleep while gaming. More
than a third have missed a meal.
● More than half of gamers would not continue to make purchases or
play games on a website that has experienced a security incident
such as a data breach.
● Video games do help you communicate, but once people get to
know you better, they begin to communicate more than required,
and this information can be used against other people. This causes
some gamers to not want to meet other people, afraid that the same
thing may happen again. :
Communication, strategy, attention spans, cognitive ability, better
communication skills, reduce stress, memory, focus, visual attention,
observant, persuasion, motivation, creative, phycological, no
loneliness, think of objects in 3 dimension, social, task orientation,
positive, no social anxiety, boosting white and grey matter in brain,
compassion, empathy, swallowing, analytical skills, leadership skills,
cognitive skills, new ideas, visualize new angles, loss of employment,
profit to game makers, no physical games, positive attributes, escapism
I will be concluding on behalf of my team
In a nutshell we still stand by our initial topic that violent video should be
banned. We think this because while a lot of people might say that
gaming can help and does help we talked about the disadvantages of
violent video games and as sfdb talked about Byron Daniel who took his
life at the age of 31 and even how others can affect you, we do not want any
harm to anyone and want nothing to do with the ban of video games and
just don’t want violence to spread across the world and while it might
result in raging loneliness stress and a lot more we concluded for our
team by just leaving our thought of banning violent video games.
