Lift nets, also called lever nets, are a method of fishing using nets that are submerged to a certain depth
and then lifted out of the water vertically. The nets can be flat or shaped like a bag, a rectangle, a
pyramid, or a cone. Lift nets can be hand-operated, boat-operated, or shore-operated. They typically use
bait or a light-source as a fish-attractor.[1] Lift nets are also sometimes called "dip nets", though that
term applies more accurately to hand nets
2. The cast net is a circular net which is casted from the shore or from a small boat, but, in general, in
shallow waters, to catch fish by falling and closing in on them. The cast net has a cone-shape, with
weights attached to the perimeter. According to the Handling Equipment, there is No specific equipment
is required. Cast nets are used from the shore or from a boat. The catching principle is that the net is
thrown flat upon the water surface and catch the fish by falling and closing in on them. Their use is
usually restricted to shallow waters. The operation of a cast net requires considerable knowledge and
skill from the fisherman. This kind of nets is used to catch fish swimming near the water surface, in
rather shallow waters. Some species of shrimps are also captured with cast nets. Cast nets are widely
used all over the world at the present time. It has been suggested that they were originally developed in
India and spread from there over east and south Asia into Oceania, the Near East and Europe.
Gill net

Gill nets which catch the fish in their meshes, are mostly used in long rows. As setnets they are anchored
or fixed by stakes; as drift nets they drift freely or with a fishing craft. Before the invention of mid-water
trawls, drift nets, with surrounding nets, were the principal gear for fishing pelagic fishes.

A gillnet is a wall of netting that hangs in the water column, typically made of monofilament or
multifilament nylon.

Mesh sizes are designed to allow fish to get only their head through the netting but not their body. The
fish's gills then get caught in the mesh as the fish tries to back out of the net. As the fish struggles to free
itself, it becomes more and more entangled. A variety of regulations and factors determine the mesh
size, length, and height of commercial gillnets, including area fished and target species. There are two
main types of gillnets:

Set gillnets are attached to poles fixed in the substrate or an anchor system to prevent movement of the
net.
Hook and line is one of the best methods of fishing with regards sustainability, as this will usually be one
person and a rod. Alternatively hook and line fishing uses a basic winch with a line of hooks. The hook
and line fishing method has little impact on the surrounding environment and the catch can be selective.
For example, any fish too small, or not the right species can be placed back into the water, without
harm.

Line fishing consists of a line and a hook. Hooks are made of galvanized or aluminium coated iron, brass
and stainless steel. They are manufactured in different shapes and sizes. In addition to simple hooks,
hooks of more complicated designs such as double hooks, triple hooks, and jigs are also in use.

A simple hook consists of a head or eye, by which it is connected to the line, shank, bend, point, and
barb.

Barbless hooks are used in pole and line to facilitate easy removal of fish.

Kerbed hooks which are twisted in the bend part make the baiting easier and increase efficiency.

Double hooks or triple hooks are used in troll line with artificial baits. These hooks hold in fish more
securely than the single hook.
Jig hooks have a single or double whorl of barbless hooks around spindle shaped coloured
/metallic/plastic body.

Size of the hook is denoted according to numbering system followed by the different manufacturers.
Size of the hook varies inversely with the number of hooks. Mean selection length of the fish caught is
proportional to the size of the hook represented by its breadth. Smaller hooks are reported to have
higher catching efficiency.
