meeting, we are done
discussing the Geothermal
energy and how it is
generated to produce
electricity Right? So, Now,
we will proceed to the next
lesson, in which how
different factors affect the
climate of an area.

B. ACTIVITY/STRATEGY I have some jumbled words, Ma’am it’s the time,

So, I guess you have now

knowledge about our topic “At the end of the lesson,
today it’s all about climate. the Grade 9 students
But before that, can must be able to:
everybody read the class a. Define weather from
objectives? climate and understand
the key difference
between two concept.
b. Identify the various
factors that affect the
climate, such as Latitude,
altitude, Bodies of water,
Topography, and ocean
current
c. Create a visual
representation, such as a

that influence climate.
d. Relate the factors
affecting the climate into
real life situation.
e. 80% of the class must
take and pass the test
with the mastery level of
75%
c. ANALYSIS Let us discuss first the factor
affecting the WEATHER.

Class are you ready to Yes ma’am

listen?

The first one is

Temperature – It is the
degrees of hotness and
coldness of a place.
Thermometer
Temperature is affected by ma’am
solar radiation reaching the
earth surface, we can
measure the temperature of
a place using?

Alright, we can use a

thermometer to measure the
temperature.

Second is Wind - It is the

movement of air in the
atmosphere.
Student will do as what
Everybody please read! they told

Okay, so we can measure it

with wind vane that tells the
direction of the wind and
anemometer that measures
the wind speed.

Next is Air pressure - It is

the force caused by the
weight of air min the earth’s
surface.

Even tiny particles have

some weight and the huge
number of air molecules that
make up the layers of
atmosphere collectively
have a great weight, to put
it simply it is the force
exerted by the air.
And can measure it with
barometer.

Next factors that may affect Hygrometer ma’am

the weather is Humidity
Humidity is the amount of
water vapor in the air.

If there is a lot of water

vapor in the air the humidity
will be high, the higher the
humidity is, the wetter it
feels outside. And can be
measure by what? Very
Good!
Lastly we have
Precipitation - It is the
water falling from the Temperature, Wind, Air
atmosphere, in the forms of Pressure, Humidity and
rain, snow or hail. Precipitation.

Forms of precipitation
depends the place where it
falls, it can be measure
using rain gauge.

And those are the factors It’s climate ma’am

that may affect the weather
condition of a certain place

Again what are those?

Very Good!

Now, Lets move on to our

next topic,

Can you guess again this

four pics in one word?

“Show a picture”
That is right , It’s climate..
Now, let us proceed to
Climate – It is the general
pattern of Weather in a
certain area over a long The students will read
period of time. the definition of Latitude

To tell the climate of a

certain area , scientist study
it’s precipitation and
temperature for along period
of 30 years, that is why
climate is the average
weather condition of the
place for a long period of
time.

Like weather, climate has

several factors that may
affect.

The first factor that may

affect the climate is
latitude - Is the distance to
the north and south from the
Equator.
- It is an imaginary line
that is parallel to the
equator.
Everybody please
read!
Latitude determine the
variety of climatic zones on
earth. Our planet is earth is
divided into three, major
climate zones, namely:
Tropical, Temperate, and
polar Zone.

Tropical regions are the low

latitude which is located
near to the equator,
Temperate regions are the
middle latitude and polar
zones are the high latitude.

You have notice that they

are not equal, Why?

Because earth axis is tilted

in 23.5 degrees, suns rays
strike vertically in the places
near the equator or in
tropical regions., these
makes the temperature
higher in these areas and
Philippines is near the
Equator, that’s is why we are
a tropical country, areas in
temperate regions have 4
different season.

Can you give me one

season?
Very Good!
winter, spring, summer,
While the polar regions have and autumn.
low temperatures resulting a
cold climate.

Take note of these class,

places that are near in the
equator have high
temperature, places that are
far from the Equator have
low temperature or we can
say as the latitude
increases, the
temperature decreases.

Let’s proceed to the second

one, that is altitude.

Why is it that during summer

many people visit Baguio
City? Because of the cold
Very Good! Climate ma’am.

Obviously, the reason is the

cold climate.

Do you think the altitude of

the place might affect the
climate?
Yes, ma’am
Yes! Altitude is the height
above sea level, the air
temperature decreases as
the altitude increases,
places with higher elevations
have cold climate, just like
Baguio city, for every 1000
meter there is drop of 6.5
degree Celsius, the decrease
in air temperature is due to
the decrease in air
pressure.

Another example is Mt.

Kilimanjaro located in Africa,
Africa is near in the equator,
so we expect high
temperature, however How
is it possible that the peak of
these mountain is covered
by ice, that is because of
altitude,

The Mt. Kilimanjaro stands

5895 meters above sea level

Again, class the higher the

place is the colder the
temperature or temperature
decrease as the altitude
increases.

Okay class can you follow?

Again, what did I said? Yes ma’am!
the higher the place is
Third factor is bodies of the colder the
water, temperature or
temperature decrease as
The climate of the place is the altitude increases.
influence by the surrounding
bodies of water

Let’s have an example,

Show a picture

Look at the picture it shows

the British isles and the part
of Russia near in Moscow,
being in the temperate
region, Both places have
four seasons, even though
both places are the same
latitude the northern tip of
British isles has a more
moderate climate due to the
neighboring bodies of water,
the Brish isles experiencing
average maximum
temperature of 17 degrees
Celsius and an average
minimum temperature of 0
degrees Celsius.

Moscow in the other hand as

an average maximum
temperature of 21 degree
Celsius and very cold winter
with an average of -8 degree
Celsius.

Lands heats and cools faster

than sea.
Coastal areas have lower
temperature that inland
areas.
The students will read
So, take note class, places
that are far from the bodies
of water have extreme
climates.
As there are no immediate
bodies of water that will help
to circulate the movement of
cold air and warm air.

Next factor is topography-

It is another factor that
affect the climate and one of
topographic features of an
area is mountain, Let us take
a look of these picture!

“Show a picture”
Moist wind coming from the
sea flow up the mountain,
because temperature
decreases as the altitude
increases, water vapor
eventually condenses and
there is a precipitation,

When we say precipitation,

what does it mean class?

Very Good!
Ma’am it is a water falling
Since this a side of a in the form of rain, snow
mountain facing the wind, and hail ma’am.
the it is called windward
side.

The Wind often loses

moisture content by the
time reaches the peak and
does flowing down on the
other side called leeward, air
starts to absorb heat and
becomes warm and dry, as a
result the area near the
leeward side becomes dry
and has less precipitation.

Can you follow class?

When we say Winward it is?

How about Leeward? often have a precipitation

ma’am
It is always experiencing
And lastly we have ocean heat and dry ma’am and
Currents. One of the has less precipitation.
important role of ocean
currents is changing a
climate of a certain area,
warm currents from the
equator towards poles carry
warm water, on the other
hand cold currents travel
from the poles towards the
equator carry cold water.
When ocean current carry
cold water the air above it
becomes colder, when this
ocean current moves coastal
region the temperature of
that area becomes lower, on
the other hand ocean
current that carries warm
water mix the air warmer,
when these current goes
toward a landmass the Latitude, Altitude, Bodies
temperature of that place of water Topography and
become higher. ocean currents.

To sum it up Ocean Currents Ma’am Greenhouse gases

that bring along cold water
to inland make the climate
cold.
On the other hand, ocean
currents that take a long Yes ma’am I do believe
warm water to coastal areas that human has a great
make the climate warm. contribution in climate.

Again class! The 5 factors

that affect the climate are? Activities, such as driving
cars, using electricity
Now, what are the things generated from fossils
that causes a climate? fuels and industrial
processes such as
Is it cause by human or we factories.
can say man-made?
Anyone?

Very Good!
d. ABSTRACTION
Now, can you think of every
activity that contribute to We have learned the
the rise of greenhouse several factor that affect

Ma’am the factors that

Okay that’s correct, affect the weather are,
especially in having factories temperature, Wind, air
that can release significant pressure, Humidity and
amount of greenhouse gases Precipitation ma’am
into the atmosphere!

I guess you all now

understand the topic that we
have discussed today, so
let’s make a short
generalization about the
topic that we discussed
today. Precipitation ma’am

Class what have you learned

today?
Ma’am we have 5 factor
Very Good! theses are Latitude,
So, what are those factors? Altitude, Bodies of water
