RENERIEN

Hello! In this guide I’ll be painting Ren-

erien from the Spreading War expan-
sion to The Lord of the Rings: Journeys
in Middle-earth!

As usual I’ve primed the miniature in

black followed with some grey and
white zenithal highlights applied from
above:

I’m starting by painting the eyes

I’m now painting around the eyes using Black, and adding the pupils:
using White Sands:

I’m then mixing the skin base tone using Pink Flesh mixed with Burnt Sienna Umber:
I’m now going to highlight the skin
Notice that I’ve left a nice bit of
by adding increasing amounts of
black lining around the eyes:
Golden Flesh to the base tone:

Note that I’ve got some of this mid

tone just above the eye, but be- I’m now using pure Golden Flesh:
neath the eyebrow:
I’m now adding Vanilla White to the

I’m now mixing Pink Flesh with

some Primary Red to create my lip

And this is my lip highlight tone:

To help capture the more golden

I’m going really thin here (this is

into the mid and shadow tones:

And I’m now returning to add a few

I’m mainly pulling the paint in the direction of the shadows:
more highlights:
Here I chose to go more saturated still with a glaze of Primary Red - once again sticking to the shadows:

Next I’m painting the hair with pure Black for now:

And here I went with one final glaze

of the orange:
I’m now switching to some Contrast Colours, and I’m creating a 2:3 mix of
I’m using this for the boots:
Wyldwood (2) and Gryph-Hound Orange (2):

The quiver: The various other bits of leather:

And the bow:

I’m then using some Blood Angels
Here I’m just tidying up the leggings
Red mixed with a little Wyldwood
with a pale grey:
to colour the leggings:

Next I’m painting the arrow fletchings with Skeleton Horde:

Here I’m just taking the shine off the Contrast Colour with some AK Inter- I’m now painting the top using
active Ultra Matte Varnish: Birch darkened with a little Black:

For the green waistcoat I used a

roughly equal mix of Ardennes
Green and Black Forest Green, then
added a touch of Black:
I’m now going to highlight the
green top by adding some Sher-

wood Green and some Mars Or-
ange to the base tone:

I also added some dark lining for

places like beneath the collars:
I’m now adding some Autumn
Green for the brightest highlights:

Moving on to the white top, I’m

first highlighting up to pure Birch
from the Birch and Black base tone:
I’m then adding White Sands for
the brighter highlights:

I’m now creating a blue-ish grey scale using Abyssal Blue mixed with White
Sands:
And I’m using this to paint the daggars and the arrow head in a NMM style (which didn’t actually take long at
all!):

For the NMM gold on on the bow

and quiver I used Gobi Brown, then
We can go to pure White Sands for
with the addition of Sahara Yellow,
the brightest glints:
Tenere Yellow, and some White
Sands:

I’m now lightening this with the Sa-

And now the Tenere Yellow:

And here I’m adding some White

Sands to the Tenere Yellow for the
brightest glints:
For the brown leather I chose to
add a few highlights using a mix of
Mars Orange and Tenere Yellow:

I went a little to broad on the right

boot, so toned things down with I’m not sure if this is a metal bit of the dagger or not, but I painted it with
some of the original Contrast Col- the NMM tones anyway:
