SKELETON PROPOSAL – is a presentation of the research proposal in a schema or in a schematic
diagram.
COMPONENTS OF THE SKELETON PROPOSAL:
1. The Approved Title of the Research or Study - (it’s the identified problem that is worth
investigating, it’s the title of your problem that cannot be answered by Yes or No.)
2. The Rationale- This is the strong justification why the proposed study is worth investigating,
these are the reasons backed up with laws, principles, theories and facts (through observations
and statistical data) that justify the relevance or importance of the proposed study.
3. Statement of the Problem- this section is composed one general description about the study
followed by several specific or detailed questions that such proposal will answer through the
methodology of the Study.
4. Significance of the Study- you will identify here the different stakeholders such as group of
individuals , agencies, groups in our society that will potentially benefit from the results of your
study.
5. Related Literature and Studies
a. Related Literature- these are the concepts that will be explained as used in your study
b. Related Studies- these are related researches or similar studies published in journals
6. Methodology
a. Research Design ( you do research on what Research design fits your problem.
Examples: Descriptive Analytical fits on the study “Quality of Deep Well Waters in
Brgy.71 , Tacloban City… So, why Descriptive Analytical? I will explain in my paper that
this design fits the present study since it will describe ( that’s why DESCRIPTIVE)the
quality of deep well waters in terms of its physical, chemical and bacteriological
characteristics of water….ANALYTICAL in the sense that analysis of the samples of water
will be done in laboratory in order to get the data.
b. Research Locale- you mention here the place where the study will be conducted
c. Research Respondents- if for example, your study is DESCRIPTIVE SURVEY. You describe
here the criteria set for choosing them as your respondents. What are the qualifications
of these respondents? Why this group and NOT the others? If your study is
QUALITATIVE, use participants instead of respondents.
d. Sample Size- use statistical formula in getting the sample size, cite the source of your
formula. You can use also the SAMPLE SIZE CALCULATOR.
e. Statistical Tools- do research on what statistical tools are fitted in your study
(Percentages, Mean, Median, T-Test, Pearson’s R, etc.)
f. Research Instrument- Survey Questionnaire; Interview Guide
g. Validation of Research Instrument such as Expert validation
7. ETHICAL CONSIDERATION- you will make an Informed Consent .
a. Informed consent is the process of telling potential research participants about
the key elements of a research study and what their participation will involve.
b. The informed consent process involves three key features: (1) disclosing to
potential research subjects information needed to make an informed decision; (2)
facilitating the understanding of what has been disclosed; and (3) promoting the
voluntariness of the decision about whether or not to participate in the research.
