Work Patterns Final

Recent developments in ICT since 2020 have led to changes in working patterns, including part-time work, job sharing, flexible working, and compressed hours. Part-time work allows individuals to work fewer hours than full-time, while job sharing involves two part-time workers sharing the same role. Flexible working enables employees to agree on their working hours with employers, and compressed hours allow employees to work longer hours over fewer days to meet their weekly work requirements.

Developments in ICT since 2020

The recent developments in ICT, however, have brought about four main areas where the
working patterns have changed. These are:
o Part-time
o Job sharing
o Flexible working
o Compressed hours.
Let us try to look at each of these in detail.
Part-time Part-time working is when an individual decides to work only a few hours compared to
someone working full-time. If a typical day's work is 8hrs, for example, a part-time worker may work
for 4hrs or 5hrs, just anything less than the 8hrs. Their pay also is adjusted so they may get paid less
than a full-time worker. Of course, this has some advantages as the employee could create time for
other things when they are not working. It is common for students in universities to take up part-
time jobs ranging from restaurant attendants, baby sitters, and others after classes.
Job sharing Job sharing to 12pm and another may operate is sick or stops work, for
refers to two part-time from 12pm to 4pm. This work pattern example, the organisation
workers doing the same job has a significant advantage to the can still utilise the services
but at different times. For organisation in that they will always of the other part-time
example, one part-time have more than one person who has employee as they look for a
worker may work from 8am the same skill set. If the other person replacement.

Flexible working Flexible working hours, and that would be days, the employee won't
working, also known as extra revenue for them. be expected to report for

name flexible working. This to be working a few hours in a day or

employee, they can work at 45hrs a week, an employee can agree
a time that is convenient for with his or her employer to be

they can remain open for a pattern, it will only take three days,
long time even after regular and he or she would have met the
