Section 1 EFIS Training Tool Installation Instructions
DISCLAIMER
The EFIS Training Tool (ETT) is primarily an aid to help familiarize
flight crews with the basic efis functions, including flight
management system, flight planner, symbology, menu functions,
etc. The ETT may be used to create flight plans and user
waypoints to transfer to an IDU via USB flash drive. The flight
crew is responsible for verifying the transferred flight plan reflects
the actual flight plan. The ETT is not intended to meet aviation
certification standards or requirements for initial or recurrent flight
crew training.
1.1. Installation Requirements
To run the EFIS Training Tool (ETT), a computer must meet the following requirements.
• 32-bit or 64-bit Microsoft Windows® operating system.
• 4.0 GB of hard drive space on the target computer for the database and software
installer. An additional 7.5 GB of hard drive space is required for optional charts data.
• A display with a minimum of 1200 pixels vertical resolution for the IDU-680 ETT to
prevent the need for application window scrolling. For the IDU-450 ETT, a minimum
vertical resolution of 800 pixels is recommended.
o
• For Windows® 8 and higher, it is recommended to use the EFIS Training Tool desktop
shortcut to launch the ETT. Under Windows® 8 and higher, multiple ETT installations will
not present clearly in the Start Menu. Alternatively, a free Windows shell extension utility
such as Open-Shell (https://open-shell.github.io/Open-Shell-Menu/) can be installed to
present a Windows® 7 style Start Menu with cascading folders. The Start Menu shortcut
examples in this document are based on the Windows® 7 style Start Menu format.
1.2. Installing the EFIS Training Tool
An ETT installation package contains the following components:
• Database installer (required) containing worldwide Jeppesen NavData, Jeppesen
obstruction data, terrain data, and magnetic variation data.
• Software installer (required) for the applicable EFIS software version (for example: 7.0F,
8.0K, or 9.0A).
• Charts data installer (optional) containing Instrument Approach Procedure (IAP) and
Airport Diagram (APD) charts.
The database installer only needs to be installed on the target computer once. Multiple versions
of the ETT software can be installed on the same target computer and will use the same
common databases. For example, the ETT 8.0K and the ETT 9.0A can both be installed on the
same target computer and will use the common database. The charts data installer is optional
Rev. L EFIS Training Tool Installation and User Guide Page 1-5 of 38
EFIS Training Tool Installation and User Guide
and is only compatible with EFIS software version 9.0A and later. The ETT software is a stand-
alone 32-bit Microsoft Windows® application. It is intended to be installed directly on a client
computer and not run remotely (Remote Desktop Connection) due to network latency. It is also
not intended to be run as a client/server application where multiple clients can launch an
instance of the application from a server. If multiple ETT versions are installed on a client
computer, only one of these versions can be running at any given time.

Section 3 Launching the EFIS Training Tool
Each ETT installation contains dynamic and static ETT executables. In addition, the ETT MFD
executables can be started in “talker” or “non-talker” modes. A “talker” IDU is also refered to as
the “transmit-enabled” IDU.
The PFD executable (CPU #1 or Screen Number 1) is always started as a “talker” IDU. The
MFD executable (CPU#2 or Screen Number 2) can be started as the “talker” IDU, which
assumes the PFD is not operational. The MFD executable can also be started as the “non-
talker” IDU, which assumes the PFD is operational and is the “talker” IDU. Reference the EFIS
pilot guide for details on the difference between “talker” and “non-talker” IDU behavior.

Discrete Input Settings Page
Reference the appropriate IDU installation manual for the list of available discrete input
functions for a particular software version. Discrete inputs can either be latching or momentary.
Latching discrete inputs remain latched as long as the input is active. Momentary discrete
inputs, on the other hand, are designed for momentary-type switches (for example: Push-To-
Talk, warning/caution acknowledge, TAWS glideslope inhibit) and the ETT treats these as a
momentary activation.
Page 4-30 of 38 EFIS Training Tool Installation and User Guide Rev. L
EFIS Training Tool Installation and User Guide
The discrete inputs defined in the Discrete Input Settings page can be controlled in the ETT.
When the ETT starts, the defined discrete inputs are disabled (turned off) by default. The ETT
provides the capability to enable (turn on) or disable (turn off) discrete inputs via two methods.
Method 1: Select the Input menu (only available on 8.0E and prior ETT), then select the
desired discrete input. A check mark next to a discrete input indicates it is enabled (active and
latched) and no check mark indicates it is disabled. Momentary discrete inputs will not show a
check mark after activation and will only activate momentarily.
Method 2: Select the File menu and select Control Window. This opens a new EFIS Input
Controls window, which contains the sensors and all the discrete inputs defined in the IDU
system limits. A check mark next to a sensor or discrete input indicates it is enabled (active and
latched) and no check mark indicates it is disabled. Momentary discrete inputs will not show a
check mark or check box next to the label. Selecting the control on a momentary discrete input
will only activate it momentarily.
Rev. L EFIS Training Tool Installation and User Guide Page 4-31 of 38
