General precautions
General precautions

• Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.


• Remove the spark plugs to make the engine turn over more easily.
• Rotate the engine in the normal direction of rotation (unless otherwise specified).
• Respect the tightening torques.
• If equipped: Mark the location of the crankshaft position sensor before removing it.
• DO NOT rotate the crankshaft via the camshaft or other sprockets.
• DO NOT rotate the crankshaft or camshaft with the timing chain removed.

Valve Adjustment Procedures


Valve Adjustment Procedures

• Requirements for disassembly/assembly:


■ Disassembling the engine/gearbox.
• Make sure the engine is at TDC on cylinder #1.
• Make sure the crankshaft sprocket timing mark is at the 6 o'clock position [1] .
• Check that the timing marks on each camshaft sprocket are aligned with the timing marks on the cylinder head [2].
• Lock the timing chain tensioner in the retracted position:
■ Press the tensioner shoe [3] .
■ Insert a suitable pin to lock the tensioner plunger [4] .
• Make sure the painted or colored links are aligned with the timing marks on each camshaft sprocket [5] and crankshaft sprocket
[6].
• Fit a new timing chain tensioner.
• To release the tensioner plunger after assembly:
■ Remove the locking pin [4] .
• Fit the intake camshaft sprocket onto the intake camshaft:
■ Make sure that the timing mark [7] on the intake camshaft sprocket is aligned with the timing mark [8] on the intake
camshaft.

• Tighten the new crankshaft pulley bolt as follows [9] :
■ Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 68 Nm.
■ Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt.
■ Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to 29 Nm + 60°.
