3. A 100kg mixture provided is to be made from Ingredients P, Q and R which


costs TZ. 600/=, 300/= and 400/= per kilogram respectively. Find the least
and greatest cost of the powder to be formed if the quantity of P exceeds that
of Q by at least 10kg and must not exceed that of R by more than 40kg and if
the quantity of R cannot exceed that of Q.

4. (a) A set of values of a variable X has mean 5 and standard deviation 2. Values
of a new variable are obtained by using the formula Y  4 X  3 . Find the mean
and the standard deviation of the set of values of Y .

(b) The table below shows the cumulative frequency distribution of the number
of days for which the college students were absent in the classes.

(i) Calculate the mean of days and the standard deviation by using the
coding method. Take an assumed mean from the highest number of

(c) A class has 30 boys and 30 girls. If there are 40 students studying science,

studying mathematics, 16 boys studying both mathematics and science, 8
girls studying neither mathematics nor science. Find
(i) The number of the boys who studying neither mathematics nor
science.
(ii) The number of the students who study both mathematics and science.
(iii) The number of the students who study only one type of subject.
