Cold War Assessment Project Due 6/12
Essential Questions:
What were the causes and effects of events, social issues, political issues
and controversies?
In what way did the conflict during the Cold War shape American Culture?
How did the incident illustrate the political beliefs of Democracy vs.
Communism?
What factors/actions led to events, what were the outcomes and what did it
look like in America?
Objective:
To utilize research and creativity skills to develop knowledge and educate
the class about the Cold War.
Assignment:
You and a partner will choose one of the following events from the Cold
War to create either a museum exhibit or newspaper that will provide
accurate information and details for the rest of the class to review. You
must upload into our discussion thread in Schoology, do not share it
with me.

Choose one of the project options for your topic:
Museum Exhibit:
With this option you will create a museum exhibit that highlights your topic
and how it relates to the essential questions. You have to create a Prezi
portfolio to show your work. You will have 6 ( 3 if working alone) exhibits in
your museum, each exhibit in your museum must have a written plaque
that introduces museum goers to events related to, leading up to, people
involved etc. with your topic. The parameters for each plaque are as
follows:
● Your museum must include at least 6 (3 If working alone) plaques
(exhibits).
● Each plaque must have a written paragraph explaining what is in that
exhibit and how it pertains to the Cold War(Answer the Essential
Questions).
● Each exhibit must have at least 3 different graphic elements, a
caption/description should accompany each graphic element.
Examples of acceptable graphic elements are: pictures, timelines,
political cartoons, primary source documents, timelines, short video
clip, collages, important quotes, music etc.
● If working with a partner please put your name on each plaque so I
can give you credit.
Newspaper:
For this option you will create a newspaper that has different types of
articles that explain your topic. Your job as a journalist will be to document
different happenings and issues from your topic that link to the essential
questions. The parameters for the newspaper are as follows:
● Be Creative
● Create a proper banner, heading for your paper include the name of
the paper, date and price.
● Include 2 (4 if working with a partner) headline/feature stories that
highlight your topic’s central ideas.
● Include 2 ( 4 if working with a partner) picture stories (explanation of a
picture from the time and detail how it relates to your topic)
● Include an editorial ( 2 if working with a partner. Take a particular
point of view or stance on the issue of your topic)
● Include a letter to the editor ( 2 if working with a partner. A personal
opinion from one of your readers on one of the issues within your
topic)
● Include at least 2 additional sections (4 if working with a partner) of
your choosing: political cartoons, interviews, advertisements, maps,
charts, pictures with captions, fashion etc.
● All articles must have headings, be in newspaper format (columns)
● Include the author of each article so I can give you credit.
