ELE 303 – Electric Circuits Lab Fall 2024
Department of Electrical
and Computer Engineering
Lab Report Template
A well-structured lab report not only communicates your findings clearly but also demonstrates
your understanding of scientific methods and principles. To assist you in producing comprehensive
and coherent reports, we have developed a standardized template that outlines the key sections and
expectations.
The fonts, styles, and font sizes used for the elements of the cover page are as follows:
• Name of the university (Font: Times New Roman, Style: Normal, Font size: 28)
• Name and number of the course (Font: Times New Roman, Style: Normal, Font size: 20)
• Section number (Font: Times New Roman, Style: Normal, Font size: 20)
• Name of the instructor with the corresponding prefix (Font: Times New Roman, Style:
Normal, Font size: 20)
• Name and number of the experiment (Font: Times New Roman, Style: Normal, Font size:
16)
• Names and ID numbers of the group members (Font: Times New Roman, Style: Normal,
Font size: 16)
• Date of submission (Font: Times New Roman, Style: Normal, Font size: 16)
Note that the content inside square brackets is to be modified in every report to match the
experiment handout content.

Percentage error
resistance value Color code Tolerance (%) resistance value
(%)
(kΩ) (kΩ)
𝑅1 ~𝑅1 ±∆𝑅1
𝑅2 ~𝑅2 ±∆𝑅2
𝑅3 ~𝑅3 ±∆𝑅3
The percentage error can be calculated using the following formula:
|𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑑 − 𝑛𝑜𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙| Commented [CC1]: Always number the main equation
%𝑒𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑟 = × 100 (1) and refer to it in the text whenever you use it.
𝑛𝑜𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙
Using equation (1), we can calculate the percentage error for resistor 𝑅1 as:
|~𝑅1 − 𝑅1 | Commented [CC2]: You need to at least show the
%𝑒𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑟1 = × 100 = ∆𝑅1 detailed calculations for one of the resistors.
𝑅1
Similar calculations can be done to calculate the percentage error for the remaining two resistors.
The results are shown in table 1.
We notice that the percentage error for all three resistors is less than 5%, meaning that our
measurements are accurate. Commented [CC3]: You should always interpret the
results obtained. In this case, you should also specify
what are the possible sources of error that might have
affected your measurements.
