Finding time for a consistent drawing practice:
1. Consistency is important in improving our drawing skills.
2. Remember, you only need 15-20 minutes a day.
3. Make it a priority.
4. Set a reminder on your phone.
5. Habit stack: make it automatic to do it right after you ______________
(brush your teeth, or drop your kids off at school, for example).
6. Put your supplies in an easily accessible spot: you don’t want to be
running around your house looking for a pencil which will eat up the
time which you have allotted to draw.
7. Can you draw while you are waiting for something else: while your
dinner is in the oven? While the baby is napping?
8. Break it down: If finding 15-20 minutes at once feels daunting, break it
down into smaller chunks throughout the day.
9. Schedule it: Treat drawing like any other appointment by scheduling
specific times in your calendar dedicated to it.
10. Start small: Begin with shorter drawing sessions and gradually
increase the time as it becomes more ingrained in your routine.
11. Make it enjoyable: Choose subjects or styles that you love to
draw to make the practice more enjoyable and something you look
forward to.
12. Embrace imperfection: Don't worry about creating perfect or
finished pieces every time you draw. Embrace the process and allow
yourself to experiment and make mistakes.
13. Incorporate it into downtime: Instead of scrolling through social
media or watching TV during downtime, use that time to sketch or
doodle.
14. Reward yourself: Treat yourself to small rewards after each
drawing session to reinforce the habit positively. Adhere a star, or
draw a heart on your calendar, for example.
15. Reflect on progress: Keep a tracker or journal to track your
progress and celebrate improvements over time.
16. Brainstorm to come up with the solution that fits your life.
17. Join a community: Surround yourself with like-minded individuals
who share your passion for drawing, whether it's online forums, social
media groups, or local art clubs. Accountability and support from
others can be motivating.
