LEARNING PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7
QUARTER 2
Content Standard
demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of measurement.
Performance Standard
is able to formulate real-life problems involving measurements and
solve these using a variety of strategies.
Learning Competencies
approximates the measures of quantities particularly length,
weight/mass, volume, time, angle and temperature and rate.
(M7ME-IIa-3)
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. define what it means to measure and approximate the
measures of time;
b. demonstrate accurate measurement techniques in
reading time; and
c. appreciate the importance of
estimation/approximation and measurements in
everyday life.

Motivation
“WHAT’S ON THE BOX?”
Direction: In the mystery box there will be a different
pictures. And the students will try to guess what it is.
1. Did you find some treasures inside the box? What are
those things you consider as treasures?
2. Tell something have you found out? What do you think
are the uses of those treasures?
Lesson Proper
A. Activity
“TIME CHECK!”
Direction: The class will be divided into four (4)
groups. Each group will be given 5 clocks and an activity
sheet wherein the table are written. After reading the time
in the given clocks, they will write their answers on the
table provided in the activity sheet and transfer it onto the
Manila Paper pasted on the board. They only have 5
minutes to finish the task. Afterward, they will choose one
(1) representative to present their work.
B. Analysis
1. What have you observed as you read the time in
clock given to you?
2. Did you experience any difficulty when you were
completing the task? If yes, what is it?
3. If we didn’t know how to read the time on the clock,
could we know what time it is?
4. How do you relate measuring time in your daily life?
5. Explain your take way in the activity you performed?
C. Abstraction
Measure of Time
Primitive men used to tell the time by the position of the
sun, the stars and the moon, and the behavior of animals.
They used sundial, water clock, hourglass and other
improvised instruments until mechanical clock, digital clock
and other kind of clock has been invented.
Time is measured by the rotation of Earth on its axis
(making one full day) and its complete revolution around the
sun (making one year) in 355 ¼ days
The following shows the units used to measure time and
their equivalent factor:
60 seconds = 1 minute
10 years = 1 decade
60 minutes = 1 hour
24 hours = 1 day
12 months = 1 year
1000 years = 1
millennium
365 days = 1 year
366 days = 1 leap year
52 weeks = 1 year
100 years = 1 century
20 years = 1 score
D. Application Solve each problem:
1.As an incentive of the company, FCIE offered 1000-minute
leave with pay to its outstanding employee. How many days of
leave with pay is this if an employee works 8 hours in a day?
2. James and Nadine want to visit the popular Kaybiang Tunnel
in Ternate Cavite. It takes 110 minutes to travel from ABS-CBN,
Cavite to Ternate Cavite through biking. If they leave ABS-CBN
at 8:30 A.M. at what time they will arrive the Kaybiang tunnel?
3. General Mariano Alvarez Technical High School (GMATHS)
was founded in 1969, in what year will it celebrates its 50 th
anniversary?
4. Mutya started working on her assignments at 7:30 p.m. If she
spends 3hours working on her assignments, at what time will
she complete them?
5. A tourist wanted to visit the historic houses in Vigan. He left
Manila at 5:30a.m. and reached his destination at 2:00 p.m.
How many minutes did he travel?
IV. EVALUATION
Convert each of the following to the units indicated:
1. 15 years = months
2. days = 72 hours
3. 3 hours = seconds
4. 5 scores = years
5. 2,920 years = weeks
6. months = 364 weeks
7. years = 10 centuries
8. 1 hours
2
= seconds
9. years = 5
millennium
10. 90 decades =
years
