Main Engine Procedure

Dead Ship to Live Condition

Shore Supply Available
1. Establish shore supply. Check phase sequence, voltage and frequency.
Wire from shore is to be connected to the ship in the emergency generator room. It
will supply electricity to the emergency switch board and main switch board. The
phase sequence must be checked in the correct rotation L1-L2-L3 and the voltage and
frequently must be the same from shore to the ship.
2. Supply main switchboard.

No Shore supply available

1. Ensure emergency generator DO tank level is adequate.
- It can be checked in the level gaguge to ensure that enough fuel is supplied to the
emergency generator.
2. Start the emergency generator.
-it can be started manually or automatic by first checking the fuel, lube oil then press
automatic then start the emergency generator.

3. Isolate sequential restart system. All ancillary equipment set to manual to avoid low
pressure auto start. Supply emergency 440v and 220 v switchboard.
-set the machineries to manual to prevent unnecessary start of equipment and
unnecessary load.

4. Prepare central FW cooling water system, start central cooling pump.

Check the pipelines and bleed air from the system before starting. It is necessary to
provide cooling for generators, main engine and other equipments.
5. Start generator LO priming pump
-for proper lubrication, to build up the required pressure of lube oil in the system,
it prevents dry start of the generator. It ensure safe and smooth operation of the
generator.

6. Start an air compressor and top up main and emergency air reservoir required.
Start the air compressor to supply pressurized air in the reservoir which will be used
for starting the generator and main engine. Also it supply control air.

7. Start DO flushing pump.

-to flush the fuel system with clean diesel oil and replace the possible contaminated
fuel in the system.
8. Prepare an generator engine for starting. Start diesel generator.
-start the generator to supply electricity in the ship to accomodate additional load so
that other machineries can be used.

9. Prepare an SW cooling system. Start SW cooling pump.

-line up the pipelines, ensure the suction is open and strainers are clean. Bleed to
ensure no air in the system. Start the pump to supply cooling in the cooling system.

10. Disconnect shore supply. Supply power to main 440v and 220v switchboard.
-when ship generators are running, synchronize the ship generators to shore power to
transfer the load. When load is transfered, switch off the shore supply breakers.

11. Supply power to 440v and 220v emergency switchboard.

12. Start air control system.

13. Disconnect shore supply. And place emergency generator on standby.
