Municipal Airport Project

Introduction

According to Kennedy (2020), every business exists with the aim of serving its

stakeholders. At the same time, the existence of the business requires the support of the very

stakeholders. In the case of a municipal airport project, there will be internal and external

stakeholders who will be partners for the project. Additionally, there will be a need for

committees which will be part of a strategic management process in order to address the

opportunities and costs of the project. Having identified the stakeholders, they will be needed to

be articulated into the strategic management process and always to keep them informed.

Municipal Airport Stakeholders

For the municipal airport project, there will be internal and external stakeholders who

will work in partnership for the success of the project. Internal stakeholders are the individuals or

groups who will be working within the municipal airport and will be directly impacted by the

project (Marques, 2021). One of the internal stakeholders will be the airport management and

staff. The other internal stakeholder will be the officials from the local government and the

investors who are both debtors and shareholders of the airport. External stakeholders are the

individuals or groups who will be outside of the municipal airport. However, they will have an

interest in the project or will be impacted by the activities of the airport (Marques, 2021). The

external stakeholders will include airline companies, tourism boards, environmental

organizations, and local residents and members of the community.

Proposed Committees

For the purpose of addressing the opportunities and costs of the municipal airport project,

there will be a need for a strategic management process. The two committees that will be a part
3

of this process will be the project development committee and the community engagement

committee. Consisting of the representatives from the internal stakeholders, the role of the

project development committee will be assessing the feasibility and potential benefits of the

project. The committee will play this role by considering the interests of the airport and its

employees (DeLone et al., 2018). The community engagement committee will have

representatives from both internal and external stakeholders. The role of this committee will be

gathering input and feedback from the external stakeholders and ensuring their concerns and

perspectives of the community are taken into consideration during the decision making process

(DeLone et al., 2018).

Integrating External Stakeholders

External stakeholders will be integrated into the strategic management process through

strategies like engagement and consultation, collaborative decision-making, and regular

communication. The engagement and consultation strategy will involve the engagement

committee actively seeking input from the external stakeholders through surveys, public

meetings, and focus groups (Lehtinen & Aaltonen, 2020). The engagement and consultation

strategy will provide an opportunity for the external stakeholders to air their grievances and

express their suggestions and concerns in relation to the project (Lehtinen & Aaltonen, 2020).

The collaborative decision-making strategy will involve the consideration of the input

from the external stakeholders during the evaluation of the costs and opportunities of the project.

This will be important as it will help in ensuring inclusive decision-making process while also

taking into account all the stakeholders (Lehtinen & Aaltonen, 2020). The stakeholders will be

kept informed throughout the project using a variety of channels like public announcements and

newsletters. Regularly communicating to the stakeholders will provide them with updates on the
4

progress of the project while also addressing concerns and maintaining transparency in the

decision-making process (Lehtinen & Aaltonen, 2020).

Optimal Solution

The optimal solution for the municipal airport project is to implement measures to

reduce noise and investing in sustainable practices for mitigating environmental impact. With

this solution, the municipal airport will increase tourism and minimize noise and pollution at the

same time. This solution is proposed after carefully analyzing the opportunities and costs and the

likely input from the internal and external stakeholders. Additionally, this solution strikes a

balance between the benefits and potential costs of the project.

Conclusion

Although the project of the municipal airport letting larger planes land at its facilities is

beneficial as it will bring added tourism, it will also lead to increase in noise and pollution.

However, with the right internal and external partners, the municipal airport will succeed in

ensuring the success of the project. Additionally, from the analysis of the implementation of the

project, committees will play a role in the strategic management process especially for the

purpose of addressing the opportunities and costs of the project. Having external stakeholders

integrated into the strategic management process and keeping them informed, the airport will

reach optimal solution as proposed.
