After completing this lesson, you should be able to:

1. explain access point;
2. describe access point switch works;
3. perform configuration of access points managed and unmanage.

provide different security?
A. Client C. Access Point
B. Multi-SSID D. Bridge with AP

5. In this mode you can turn the wired connection into

wireless multiple devices.
A. Access Point B. Multi-SSID C. Client D. Wi-Fi
RECAP

In the previous module, you have learned about different types and kinds
of router, router series, router classifications and configuring routers. You were
made aware that A router is a system that connects two or more networks that
are in the same or different geographical locations. It operates on the third layer
of the OSI Model (i.e., the network layer) and performs two basic functions: 1.
From the routing table, choose the best route. 2. Send the packet along that
direction. Access Layer Routers, access layer routers have a low speed,
processing capacity, RAM, and number of ports, as well as a low price.

This module is a continuation of the previous topic where you will know
how to configure access point.

LESSON

An access point is a system that establishes a wireless local area

network, or WLAN, in a business or large building. An access point is a device
that connects to a wired router, switch, or hub through an Ethernet cable and
broadcasts a Wi-Fi signal to a specific location. If you want to allow Wi-Fi
connectivity in your company's reception area but do not have a router nearby,
you can mount an access point near the front desk and run an Ethernet cable
through the ceiling back to the server room.

You may be experiencing a weak WIFI signal and have come across the
word "Wireless Access Point." Most people take their wireless link for granted
with their home broadband router, but this is not always the case, as many
routers cannot be connected wirelessly. As previously mentioned, most domestic
routers are WIFI compliant, but if your router is not and you want WIFI, you will
need a Wireless Access Point, also known as a 'WAP' or 'AP'.

How Does A Wireless Access Point Work?

Access points communicate with your broadband router or network switch
through an Ethernet or data cable. This provides the AP with the required
internet connection and bandwidth. It then transmits and receives a wireless
signal in the
2.4GHz or 5GHz frequency bands (WIFI). This helps you to connect wirelessly to
your LAN and the internet.
Wireless access points are ideal for applications where a physical Ethernet
cable cannot or would be difficult to link, making them ideal for providing an
internet connection to smart phones, tablets, laptops, wireless audio systems,
smart TVs, and other devices.

Connecting device for configuration

1. Use an Ethernet cable or wireless to connect to the access point. The

access point's default wireless network name (SSID) is TP-LINK AP XXXX.
The default password is printed on the access point's label at the bottom.
More information can be found on the label at the bottom.
2. Insert the supplied power adapter into the access point's power jack and
connect the other end to a normal electrical wall socket. Then, to turn the
computer on or off, click the on/off button.
3. Switch on all of your network equipment, then check to see if the LEDs on
the access point are displaying normally, as shown in the diagram below.

multiple devices can share, which is particularly useful in a home,
office, or hotel where only a wired network is accessible.

How to configure access point operation mode
1. Enter a memorable name for your wireless network here.
2. Choose Channel for your computer.
3. To avoid unauthorized access to your access point, choose the most
secure (WPA/WPA2-PSK) mode and enter a wireless password.

(Note: The network configuration page will then appear. On this tab, it
is recommended that you leave the default settings alone.)

WRAP-UP

This module talked about configuration of access point Switch. Specifically, it

discussed how to how does a wireless access point work, connecting devices for
configuration, and configure access point in operation mode.
In addition, an access point is a device that connects to a wired
router, switch, or hub through an Ethernet cable and broadcasts a Wi-Fi signal to
a specific location. Most people take their wireless link for granted with their

Wireless Access Point, also known as a 'WAP' or 'AP'.
Now, as learners, aside from the several points mentioned above. You can
use the blank spaces provided in the next page to answer and react to the
following cases or scenarios:
 Would you be able to make use of this knowledge obtained in this module?
In what scenario would it be?

 What are the challenges you encountered in learning this module?

VALUING

DIRECTION: Read and answer the following questions carefully in two to

three sentences each number.

1. What is the essence of following the correct configuration of access

point Switch?

2. How will you use the knowledge you acquired about configuration of
access point Switch?
3. Cite a situation in which you can apply the knowledge of
understanding configuration of access point Switch?

POSTTEST
Direction: Write T on the line if the statement is correct and F if the statement
is wrong.
