The Canadian Visa Officer,
Deputy High Commission of Canada,
Victoria Island,
Lagos State.
Dear Sir/Madam,
Letter of Explanation for Canada Business Visitor Visa Application
I am writing to provide a detailed explanation and context in support of my application for a Canada
Business Visitor Visa. My name is Akingbade Raphael Anuoluwapo, a 38-year-old Nigerian citizen,
currently residing in Ogun State, Nigeria. I have been privileged to be selected as a speaker for
International Conference on Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, which is scheduled to take place in
Canada. The title of my presentation is "Role of Health Informatics in Research and Developmental
Policies in Developing Countries (ICLO306): Project Experience, South West, Nigeria, March 2023 to
February 2024." This opportunity not only represents a significant milestone in my professional career but
also reflects the commitment and contributions of my organization, Sway Development Initiative, to
advancing public health informatics and developmental policies in Nigeria.
Professional Background
With over 13 years of professional experience in Health Information Science, my career has been dedicated
to advancing the efficiency and effectiveness of health information management systems in Nigeria. My
academic journey began with a National Diploma in Health Records and Information Management from
2005 to 2008. This foundational knowledge was further strengthened with a Higher National Diploma in
Health Information Management from 2008 to 2010, which is equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Nigeria.
My thirst for knowledge and specialization led me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Computer and
Information Science (with a focus on Health Information Management) from Lead City University, which I
successfully completed in 2019.
Currently, I am employed as a Health Information Management professional with the Ogun State
Government and also function as project coordinator at Sway Development Initiative. My role in Ogun State
Hospital Management Board involves overseeing the management of patient records, ensuring that the
integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of health information are upheld. Additionally, I am actively
involved in IT-driven initiatives aimed at enhancing the efficiency of health information systems within the
government sector.
Beyond my role in public service, I am also the Co-founder of Sway Development Initiative, a non-
governmental organization that focuses on providing public health interventions in education, healthcare,
and resources to underprivileged communities in Nigeria. Our work has had a profound impact on the lives
of countless individuals, particularly in rural areas where access to essential services is often limited.
Purpose of Visit
As a Co-founder of Sway Development Initiative, I have been tasked with leading a delegation from our
organization to the International Conference on Biotechnology and Bioinformatics in Canada. This
delegation comprises two other esteemed speakers and seven additional delegates, all of whom have been
selected based on their contributions to our organization's work in health informatics and developmental
policies. During a recent Board of Trustees meeting, it was unanimously agreed that I should represent our
organization at this prestigious event. My participation is not only crucial for the dissemination of our
research findings but also for the strategic networking and potential collaborations that could result from this
international platform.
The conference will provide us with an invaluable opportunity to share our insights and experiences on the
role of health informatics in shaping research and developmental policies in developing countries.
Moreover, it will allow us to engage with global experts, exchange knowledge, and explore collaborations
that could further enhance the impact of our work in Nigeria. Our organization, Sway Development
Initiative, is committed to taking full responsibility for the total sponsorship of our participation in this
event. This includes covering all travel, accommodation, and related expenses, ensuring that our delegation
is well-supported throughout the duration of the conference.
Ties to Nigeria
I have deep-rooted ties to Nigeria, both personally and professionally. I am married to Akingbade Titilayo
Oluwaseun, and we are blessed with two beautiful daughters—a 4-year-old and an 8-month-old baby. My
family is my anchor, and we share a strong bond that is deeply intertwined with our community and cultural
values. Additionally, I am part of a close-knit extended family that includes my parents and siblings, all of
whom reside in Nigeria. Our family’s legacy and traditions are centered around the principles of unity, hard
work, and giving back to the community.
Professionally, my commitment to Nigeria is reflected in my ongoing work with the Ogun State
Government, where I have been employed since 2013. My role in public service has afforded me the
opportunity to contribute significantly to the healthcare sector in Nigeria, and I am dedicated to continuing
this work upon my return from the conference. Moreover, as a Co-founder of Sway Development Initiative,
my focus remains on driving sustainable development projects that improve the quality of life for
underprivileged populations in Nigeria.
In addition to my familial and professional ties, I have made significant investments in Nigeria. I own
landed properties in strategic locations, which not only represent a substantial financial investment but also
symbolize my commitment to building a permanent home in my country. Furthermore, I hold shares in
various organizations, further anchoring my financial and personal interests in Nigeria. These assets
underscore my long-term commitment to my country, and I have no intention of relocating or abandoning
my responsibilities here.
Financial Capacity
As previously mentioned, Sway Development Initiative will fully sponsor our participation in the
conference. The organization has allocated sufficient funds to cover all expenses associated with our trip to
Canada, including travel, accommodation, conference registration, and any other related costs. I have
attached the necessary financial documents, including bank statements and sponsorship letters, to provide
evidence of our organization’s financial capacity to fund this trip.
In addition to the sponsorship from Sway Development Initiative, I have personal financial resources that
further support my ability to travel and return to Nigeria as planned. My personal bank account has a healthy
balance, and I have the means to cover any additional expenses that may arise during my stay in Canada.
Acknowledgment of Previous Visa Denials
I would like to take this opportunity to address my previous visa denials to the United States, Australia, and
Canada. In 2015, my visa application to the United States was denied, though I was not provided with a
detailed specific reasons for the refusal. More recently, in 2023, my visa application to Australia was denied
due to insufficient processing time. Additionally, my previous application to Canada in 2023 was refused
based on concerns regarding my temporary stay, motivation, and an oversight on my part in failing to
disclose my prior US visa refusal.
I sincerely apologize for the oversight in my previous application and wish to assure you that my intention to
attend the International Conference on Biotechnology and Bioinformatics in Canada is genuine and
temporary. My participation in this conference is of great importance to my professional development and
the advancement of the work we do at Sway Development Initiative.
As stated earlier, I have demonstrated a strong ties to my home country, which includes multiple sources of
income through a stable job with the Ogun State Government, a commitment to the Sway Development
Initiative, and deep personal connections with my family. My wife, two young daughters (aged 4 years and 8
months), my elderly parents, and my siblings who all reside in Nigeria, and I am committed to returning to
them after the conference. Additionally, I have substantial investments in Nigeria, including landed
properties and shares in various organizations, which further anchor my intention to return home after the
event.
I hope this letter provides the necessary clarity and assurance regarding my application. I am committed to
complying with all the terms of the Canadian Business Visitor Visa and returning to Nigeria promptly after
fulfilling my responsibilities at the conference.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I respectfully request that my application for a Canada Business Visitor Visa be granted so
that I can fulfill my responsibilities as a speaker at the International Conference on Biotechnology and
Bioinformatics. My ties to Nigeria are strong and unwavering, and I am committed to returning home to
continue my work in health informatics and sustainable development. I assure you that I will adhere to all
the terms and conditions of the Canadian Business Visitor Visa and that my stay in Canada will be solely for
the purpose of attending the conference and engaging in professional activities related to my field.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to a positive response and the opportunity to
contribute to this important international event.
Yours sincerely,
Akingbade Raphael Anuoluwapo
