Robotics

Robotics encompasses the design, construction, and application of robots, intersecting with artificial intelligence and mechanical engineering. Various types of robots include service, humanoid, medical, military, and industrial robots, each serving distinct functions in society. While robots offer advantages such as increased productivity and reduced human risk, they also pose challenges like high costs, cybersecurity issues, and potential job displacement.

ROBOTICS

Robotics is the branch of technology that deals with the design,

construction, operation, and application of robots.
It is a discipline overlapping artificial intelligence and
mechanical engineering
1. SERVICE ROBOTS

Service robots are the friendly helpers in public and domestic settings.
They often interact directly with people, assisting in tasks ranging from
the mundane to the complex.
Service Robots are like the helpful assistants in hotels, hospitals, and
even our homes.
2. HUMANOID ROBOTS

Humanoid types of robots are like the sci-fi characters we’ve always imagined, but
they’re real and walking (sometimes even dancing) among us!
These robots are designed to look and move like humans, having a head, torso, arms,
and legs.
Their human-like design helps them navigate our world, which is built for, well,
humans.
3. MEDICAL ROBOTS

Medical robots are the high-tech heroes in hospitals and clinics.

These robots range from tiny devices performing intricate surgeries to
automated systems handling hospital logistics.
4. MILITARY ROBOTS

Military robots are like the ultimate action heroes, but in real life.
These types of robots are designed to handle the tough stuff – think
reconnaissance, bomb disposal, and even combat, all without putting
human lives at risk.
These robots come in various shapes and sizes, from small drones to
large unmanned vehicles.
5. INDUSTRIAL ROBOTS

Think of industrial robots as the strong, silent types working tirelessly behind the
scenes in factories and manufacturing plants.
These types of robots are the backbone of nowadays manufacturing, handling
tasks that are either too repetitive, precise, or hazardous for humans.

Advantages of robots
1. Money and time
Recruitment, training, and maintenance of manpower are time and money-consuming.
Comparatively, robots save money in terms of training and the benefits given to employees, overtime
charges, and many more.
2. Productivity and accuracy
Productivity is maximum. Humans have limited energy and fixed time but, robots are smashing.
Accuracy is inbuilt in robots while computing it, so there are no chances of any errors.
3. Surgery and research
There is yet another field where robots have proved to be amazing, and that is operation theater.
Right from arranging things properly to helping the doctors in surgery are the tasks that robots do
flawlessly. That assures patients faster recovery and lesser sufferance.
4. Reliable and continuous
No one can match their speed, still, the quality of work remains the same. Robots never get tired. They
can work 24 /7 without any break.
5. Warfare and accident
Another field where human’s life is at stake is war. With robots, human casualties and deaths get
reduced. They can do any assigned job, even killing the people.
Disadvantages of robots
1. Robots are Expensive
Robots replace humans. Fast, errorless, and it is which again needs a skilled staff. That adds to the expense.
2. Maintenance and Security
As computers are prone to cyber-attacks, so are robots. They don’t have the senses to judge right or
wrong. It can be hacked and programmed to malfunction. Cybersecurity problems associated with robots
can be dangerous.
3. Human capabilities and Emotionlessness
It is a challenge to human capabilities if robots take over the world. The internet has connected us
worldwide and disconnected us from real life. Like any other appliance, they can make your life easier but,
you can’t sit and have a word to share your sorrows and happiness.
4. Power and Programming
Robots are power-driven so, they need lots of electricity. Hence, they are not eco-friendly. On the other
hand, they add to global warming issues and greenhouse gases. That limits their capability and ends up
saying, after all, it is a machine. They have to depend on the clever minds of humans to show efficiency.
5. Increase in the rate of unemployment
Finally, the dark underbelly of the whole robot scenario is the concern surrounding the sharp increase in the
rate of unemployment. While we do not deny that robots will boost economic development and open
doors to newer job avenues, it is also true that the same robots will be the cause of a major wave of
unemployment.
